Interesting stuff. Would be cool to put a base on the moon and drink moon water...

Very interesting indeed. It will, however take quite substantial amounts of energy to bake that water out of the bedrock in usable quantities. It does show great promise for future permanent settlements on the moon though.

*patiently awaiting arrival of the future* :D

I'd be interested in 'moon juice' if you get the low-grav effect.

    Interesting article, though.

Why don't they just build a massive hose? That would solve the rising sea levels.

I don't find it surprising that there are molcules of water in pebbles... heaps of things have molecules of water in them!

I think the closest thing we'll get to moon juice is ground moon pebbles mixed with gin or milk, etc...

On earth yes, that's because we have tons of water, the moon was previously thought to be completely devoid of water, not even the tiniest drop

    Wait a minute!

It's a conspiracy! This proves that they never went to the moon, since the moon is completely devoid of water, these can't be moon rocks!

    That's it!

Or, the astronauts used them in their martinis like olives.

Has anyone told NASA that if they're thirsty, you can just get a bottle of Evian for under a quid?

What ever next? "Oh, I'm hungry now. Let's search for Blancmange on Jupiter, while Pete goes to find Trombones from Proximus Centauri".

Oh, hang on... I understand now... :p

Imagine the pump you'd need to draw that much pressure :D The watercooling crowd should have something to say on this...

I think making a hose long enough to get to the moon would cause problems too :p

*waits for someone to start selling "moon water"*

Seeing as stupid Americans pay a fortune or Norwegian water, the price of moon water could be huge!

Actually, it's impossible to suck water that high. Even if you had complete vacuum the water would only get a few meters high. It would be cool if it was possible, though. The vacuum of space could do the job! No pumps needed. Pumping it up could be possible, though. Problem is that the pressure would have to be immense!

What pressure might that be? I hear the moon has no air.

Well actually what you said isn’t true. The water would boil then freeze.

EDIT: This is also the reason why if you managed to get the water up there it would be completely useless.
