Hello, i'm looking to watercool my rig; all the parts are listed in my sig. I have two problems. I cannot find a waterblock for the gts 250. Maybe i'm not looking hard enough or one was never made for the nvidia 200 series. Is there a waterblock that has been proven to fit this GPU? Maybe the 9800 waterblocks work because that is what a gts 250 is, a "rebunked" version of the 9800 which is a recreation of the 8800. Gotta love nvidia. My other problem is where can i find northbridge coolers for my mobo. I understand it isn't necessary but i am getting an AMD quad core and i want to do some serious overclocking; so i want to go overboard and cool my NB. My choice, sounds stupid, but where can i find NB waterblocks for an ASUS M4N78 PRO. Thanks in advance.
Your best bet for that card is to get a core only block and some decent ram sinks. A swiftech MCW60 now ships with the correct mounting plate for the 200 series cards. Watercooling the NB can be good as long as it does not introduce to much restriction to the loop. http://www.petrastechshop.com/nowa.html Petras might have something that would fit. If it uses a standard mounting system and just has a single NB block, then you should have no problems. Edit: Just looked and the M4N78 PRO does just use a single nb cooler, so you should be able to use most standard mounting NB blocks. And a bit of further info on the graphics blocks, its not so much what chip the card has, its solely down to the pcb design, I have an 8800GT which is not the reference design so even an 8800GT full cover block will not fit it. This is why I do not like the full cover blocks. They only last you one card and as I have seen on another forum, when some one had a card break, they sent it back for RMA and the replacement did not have the same pcb design so the block was useless. Edit2: I am just going to have to edit again . I assume you have researched enough into watercooling and know what cpu block, radiator and pump you are using? It might be helpful to list them on here so you can get some feedback. And the number one rule, don't mix copper and aluminium, just not worth it!
Precisely why i posted this. Now I just need you to help me find a solution to watercooling my gts 250. I read some stuff about using a 7900/8800/9800 block but no one really said that they fit on a gts 250.
That is my asus northbridge. Do they all have the same format for the mount or are their different sizes? That doesn't look exact but when i measured spring-to-spring it was about 2 and 3/8"
Pump: Switftech MCP655-B Rad: Black Ice GT Stealth 240 X-Flow Radiator Reservoir: Click Here CPU Block: Koolance CPU-340 Liquid Cooling CPU Block And what did you mean about the copper/alu thing? Also, I need to just get a chipset cooler for my gts 250's pcb design? and use ram sinks for the RAM since i can't get a full waterblock
Sorry I wasn't more clear. You need a regular chipset block for your northbridge. And then something like an MCW60 for your GTS 250. You might want to email swiftech just to double check it fits. I cannot see why it wouldn't, they fit the 9800GTX with the standard mounting plate, and I think the 250 has the same mounting hole spacing. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2...Series_Ready_260_275_285_.html?tl=g30c357s925 It doesn't say the 250 works with the 200 series adapter plate, but I think that's because it just doesn't use it and only needs the standard plate which obviously comes with the waterblock. Edit: Oh and you want to stay away from any waterblocks and other parts that include aluminium. If you mix aluminium and copper in the same watercooling loop you will get galvanic corrosion.
Well thank you very much. You have answered all my questions. And just for future reference, how do i determine (in the future) what kind of block to buy for my chipset? if i were to change motherboards?
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620185 I just found this forum and the guy apparently put his 7900 block onto his gts 250. I looked at the card that had the waterblock on it and it looks exactly the same as my gts 250 that i have taken apart on my desk. Should I try it? It looks like it worked for him.
