I've had big plans for a watercooled system all along. I've researched the various options on waterblocks, pumps, and hose sizes. I do, however, have a few questions that I want to ask, as I feel I should ask, rather than guess, when it comes to such an expensive undertaking. Aquastream and BlackIce are two names I see revered. I am thinking of purchasing this radiator. Any opinions? As far as pumps go, I'm not sure what to look for. What I plan on doing is a minor overclock on the proc and northbridge, so I will only have them watercooled at first. I also am not sure about the 'order' everything should go in. From what I gather, it goes something like this: 1. Res 2. Pump 3. Blocks 4. Rinse and repeat What does this mean? The water goes into the res, then the pump, then the blocks and back? I think I'm right, but I am new to this. I already know that I will be using all 1/2" fittings. The processor block will be Danger Den Maze4, since I don't have the materials or equipment to mill my own. Back to pumps. I don't know which one I should get. There are a bunch, and to help, I will not be submerging the pump. It will be mounted. Is an Aquastream good? I know Ehiem is a name thrown around but with mixed opinions. Lots of questions, yes, but it's the best way to learn
Take a look at the new Danger Den RBX blocks that are going around now. They're getting some good reviews, iirc. In terms of order, the typical standard is: Res > Pump > Radiator > Blocks > Res So the radiator is cooling the water BEFORE it hits the blocks. Pumps will sometimes get a little warm after extended use (Eheim 1250, and I'm not sure, but probably the Hydor L30), so they'll heat up the water slightly. With the radiator next in line, this problem is stopped from affecting your systems cooling properties, somewhat. Take a look at the Thermochill radiators, too. Very good quality radiators, and worth a look if you haven't already. Eheim pumps are good pieces of kit, in my experience. The 1048/1250 are ideal for water cooling loops, large or small. I've been using an Eheim 1250 for the last 6 months, and apart from a slight humming, I can't fault it.
