Just when you think waterproof phones are a load of bs, the one I got for my dad, gets dropped in the sea (like most of his other phones) AND SURVIVED!! It was in the drink overnight and got rescued this morning. Yeah, it's still working as if it never happened ! (the weak link being the charging cover, which somehow stayed shut). I was miffed with him last night, and while I'm at Ikea with my mom, we get a call from my dad's phone. I couldn't believe it. Am pretty chuffed Oh and part of the irony is that he has a waterproof case for it, one that you seal like a sandwhich bag on top of the phone being a waterproof phone. Well I had put the phone on charge. My dad puts in the case, doesn't close it properly, and goes fishing. When he's at the fishing he has the case hung around his neck, so he decides to fling it over his shoulder so that it's not in the way when he's packing up his stuff to come home that day, and out comes the phone and into the sea. Ha. Phone's a samsung B2100. As much as I think samsung phones are crap, this one has earned my respect. Just wanted to share that one
Yeah so do I. Tall made an abstract comment towards black's stealing things and you agreed. Anyway... Most cellphones seem to be fairly water-resistant these days, my N97 took a plunge for an hour once, switched it off, dried it out and presto, worked again. Don't wanna be trying it with my HTC mind.
My brother went for a swim with an iPhone 3GS... tried drying it out for a few days, and it wouldn't start. Then, WEEKS later, he tried it again, and Hey presto...
Um, no. No phone EVER states that it can be fully submerged for hours on end, and still work. They are 'splash proof' at best. *edit* doh, looks like it can take 'immertion' according to review. I guess I thought all that was a load of bs. It was off a jetty. Water must have been max a a metre deep or so.
I need to buy your dad's phone as well as my friend's brother's phone, so then i can say one of my phones has been to the bottom of the sea and one of my phones has been to space.
A drinking aquaintances wife was brandishing her WATERPROOF nokia around the bar, fed up of her "wittering" I took it off her and dropped it in her half of Carling. It stopped working. It may have been "Water" proof, obviously Carling reaches parts that others fail to refresh though.
I'm sure she was mighty pleased. Dad's old Nokia 6300 took a leap of faith from his shirt pocket directly into a cup full of tea. Got a significant drenching but once left to dry out the only damage was a slight ripple effect on the sides of the screen, works flawlessly apart from that though.
That's because the stuff is evil, like acid and can destroy livers in under 3 cans. Alot of phones are like that... leave them to dry out totally (or help them) and they'll function again.
+1 This is the most annoying thing about modern gadgets where you can't remove the battery. You soak something in water - be it a phone or a car - and leave the battery in, the battery will short just about everything and will feel pretty sorry for itself afterwards. When I put my A300 through the wash-dry cycle a few years back, I pulled the battery out, put it in the airing cupboard until the condensation had disappeared from the two screens, and it worked just fine. Not trying that with the i4 anytime soon...
My trusty work phone is a Samsung B2100, and ive put it through hell and you'd never notice! Its fell out of the van whilst moving, dropped in rivers and streams, its probably the only water/shock resistant phone ive had that hasnt died extremely easy tbh. My desire HD however feels like if you stared at it for long enough it would break.
I emptied a pint of water over my laptop by mistake. It survived a whole night plugged in and covered in water, only thing that didn't work after drying it thoroughly was the right mouse button Most modern electronics are remarkably resilient to fresh water.
One of my friends dropped his phone in a beer by mistake (don't ask) and after a few days it worked again.
