Scratch Build – In Progress Watery (H1N1)

This project is going to be based around acrylic, and lots of it.

The basic plan is too have the PC parts (inc. water-cooling stuff) in a solid case measuring 320 x 320 x 400 (mm) and then around that box I intend to have a resevior covering both side panels and the front panel. This will be made using 10mm acrylic cut to 45* then cemented together.. The Motherboard will be mounted flat on the top (like a MM Horizon or something). More details >here<

Anyway, I decided to make a start today.. The Radiator will be mounted on the bottom so its gonna need some air flow, so I set about making some legs today. The front of the case will have a 'skirt' so these needed to be quite long. They are made from offcuts of 1" Aluminium...

I started with a pilot hole...



Then drilled out with a 4.3mm hole so it can be tapped to M5. I'm using paraffin as my cutting compound because I was told to..




Then tapped to an M5 thread



All four tapped up...



My machine of choice...





(they were orignally going to be 'ribbed' but the machine wasn't being helpful, so I went for 'smooth!')
And, the finished articles....




(they still need to be fully polished...)

I also can't believe it took me 2 or 3 hours just to do them...

You got my attention with the first sentence. Then I saw the first PIC!

 

this sounds like an excellent idea, it sorta sounds like the end result will sorta look like a pc inside a reservoir! soo many cnc machines around here, i want one sooo bad now... nice feet btw! as for names well water in italian is aqua and in latin i think it's aquila, even "wet" sounds cool i reckon.

Its a CNC lathe.

@ C_D - I was hoping to do some laser-ing of acrylic today but I'm ather busy this afternoon, so I'll try and get some stuff done tommorow.

 

Update! - CAD Panel Designs and Renders!

Well, as promised, heres that CAD update.

The over all dimensions have been slightly shrunk, but it'll still take any current GPU (not sure about those 1Gb Quad-SLi 7900 GTX's but who wants one of those anyway..)




The panels are all 3mm and the top bit is for a 'window into the harware on the top level. I'm having a window because I'm now set on sandblasting most of the case panels so they are traslusent..




Here is the drawing extruded out to give another idea of how it'll look. The 'rad-grill' is approximately based on an ACRyan Grill and the bottom is designed to take a Black Ice GT-Stealth 240mm radiator (or a BIX or a BIP or whatever)




And the final render, using highly glossy acrylic on the panels.

I'm hoping to get the panel made tommorrow or Tuesday, and then I'll start thinking about the resevior.

Not as such. I've got little sketches on bits of paper and a whole bunch of stuff in my head

Update! Side Panel

1st Side Panel (Right w. rad Grill)

Here are some pics of the first side panel.



It will eventually be sand-blasted but I can't ATM due to my arm. Its made of 3mm Acrylic and measures 290mm x 290mm x 3mm and was cut on a Laser-Cutter.






I'm hoping to do the base panel, top panel, mobo panel and some other stuff tommorow aswell
