    Is using a resevoir absolutely necessary? Say for instance I want to watercool a smaller case, using a barton 2500 OC'd. Can I just make the loop with Rad, pump and block? How would that affect performance?

    Hi,

    I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary, but it makes life ALOT easyer, when you need to top up the system.
    Proformace wise; I'd say it wouldn't effect it alot, but it will to some extent.

    Could make it quite difficult and messy to fill, as well.

    It is alot easier ::

    1. It's easier for filling
    2. It let's the air go to the highest point in the system, good for bleeding
    3. They look great :D

    What I Have seen done is ... instead of a res... just a length of tube that goes up to the top of the case (from a T piece in the loop) and ends on one of those fill points. that does work.. but you would have to keep an eye on it a bit more as the bubbles work out.
    You can do it.
    The res also acts as somewhere for the water to sit for a bit and calm down a bit which apparently is good for it. lazy water!

    is it a must? no
    does it make filling/bleeding easier? yes

    I have just built my first WC system and I didn't have room for a res, so I put a T-line and it was not as much hassle as I thought it would be.
