I have had my western Digital raptor for quite soem time but i was unable to get windows to install on it. After my harddrive failing for the third time in the past 3 months Ive had enough and decided its time to move from my seagate (yikes) harddrive.

I have the 36 gig WD raptor. My mobo is the K8v SE Deluxe. Installing xp home. Whenever I load into windows installer and load the drivers, I am unable to install, and it reads the harddrive as 118 Gigs.

    All help is appreciated.

Edit: I have not solved it but, Apparently I am a complete fool. I forgot a couple weeks ago I disconnected the Sata cable. I reconnected it after slapping myself buy the situation has only gotten slightly better. The motherboard recognizes the drive, but still windows does not. I am loading the Via VIARAID220d driver set.

Edit 2: I loaded both the promise and the Via drivers and windows in now installing. Apparently I needed both as both wouldnt work individually. The 118 gig thing is still showing up, i dont know what it is.

It sounds to me a like the firmware is a bit messed up. Is the drive recognised correctly in the BIOS? Try running some of WD's diagnostic tools (available on their website).
