Ive the same as MDK, found to stop it slipping off put some grip paste on the inside of the last joint. Or if you slide it off theres a bolt hole so you can drill the plastic and put a bolt in.

Be careful with a wall mounted one, they need a very secure mounting. It depends on the repairs you are doing, setting the gears / brakes up are fine, but as soon as you need to put a bit of power through an extension bar to remove a bottom bracket, I'd imagine you could rip it out the wall.

In other news I've broke my Trek Slash. Looks like my torque wrench isn't calibrated correctly around 20nm, I switched the mino link over to see how differently the bike would handle with .5 degree difference on the head angle and I stripped the threads tightening the bolt up.

Ruined my weekend as I was getting out with the boys around Thrunton Woods.

I've just got one of the LIDL workshop stands and must say for the money I can't fault it! Nice and stable (even without the legs being fully extended), grips really well, makes working on the bike so easy I can't believe I hadn't got one sooner.

Looking for some recommendations for cycling shorts. (Not lycra ones)
I ride a Boardman Team Hybrid around the Gower coast and as the weather is starting to improve, I would like some 'casual' shorts with some padding inside.
Something along these lines I was thinking:-

I've got some sombrio epik baggy shorts which I've found to be quite durable and don't scream cycling specific. They've lasted a year of being used fairly frequently and look like new still. They have no padding but I have a padded pair of under shorts that I often use with them for longer MTB rides and road rides.

    +1

In the past I've used your standard style of 3/4 shorts (think camo combat style), I now use Altura Mayhem or Attack 360 Waterproof's. I'm going to make the jump to Endura Humvee's next.

Managed to pick up some Troy Lee Design Skyline shorts for a decent price not too long ago, I've not worn anything comfier. They allow so much moment without feeling too baggy. There's no padding in them, but I haven't needed any.

Why not get padded underwear then you can wear whatever shorts you want and save £££.

    Real men wear lycra.....

If you don't want to wear cycling shorts it doesn't take long for most asses to get used to riding without them....

    I STRONGLY disagree with this!
Actually, I strongly disagree with the whole 'real men' sentiment.
I have cycled 3000 miles on my hybrid this last 12 months and my ass has gotten used to my seat, I just prefer a little extra padding down there.

ALso, I cycled every day from my house to Mumbles Pier in January to raise money for Combat Stress and didn't see site or sound of one mamil.

As soon as the weather has gotten a bit better recently, out they come in their stupid clipped shoes and sponsored Sky shirts, heads down trying to beat their Strava sectionals....very sad.

They really do not seem to be enjoying themselves with their head down blanking everyone.

I was basically kidding. Although I would say that the best thing about lycra is not having bunching around the saddle so its a nice smooth motion. But I do often ride in my commuter jeans because I'm popping to the shop/going to a friends.

Have you considered those gel saddle covers? I sneered at them, but I put my mums one on my spare bike for a friend over the weekend, and it actually worked really well.

I'm actually in a similar situation as I'm off on the mountain bike this weekend for the first time in about 10 years, but I'm not sure what shorts to wear. I was going to just wear some lyrca shorts under some old cargo shorts, or will that end up roasting the vital parts?

Endura shorts are worth a look and not to expensive. You can buy the baggy shorts with the lycra inserts. These have padding in them as well, just make sure the liner is removable. You can then have several liners and a couple of baggies to go over the top.

Got myself a new ride. First time in ages when down hill isn't the only direction I can ride :O With this one it's apparently possible to also ride on flat and - if I get back to shape - uphill! Can you imagine, a bicycle that goes uphill...

The one on the left is a Banshee Scream and the one on the right is Meta 55 LTD (2010). So far my bikes have been early 2000's, so a 2010 seems brand new to me.

That srceam is monster, I used to know a guy who rode one, all sixty pounds of it with 3.0 Gazzalodis and everything.

Embarresingly, when he replaced it with a Scythe he could suddenly beat my whimpy arse on climbs.

This is why I just wanted the one pair rather than faffing about with undershorts and then a separate pair of overshorts.
