    That's a UK vs the rest of the world thing.

    For some reason the UK, Aus and Canada mostly build and sell bikes with the brakes laid out 'moto style' with the front on the right.

    Everywhere else I've been they put front on the left and rear on the right to match the shifters.

    Except America, Americans do both and they argue about it endlessly...

    It's an easy way to discourage gray imports as well.

    I put mine

    Right = Front
    Left = Rear

    Primarily as it gave shorter, more direct and neater cable cable runs, plus am enormously right sided so have better strength and feel on that side so made more sense to me to put the brakes that way.

    Brakes and shifters should be on opposite sides of the bars so you can slow down with one hand and down-shift with the other!

    It's kind of logical really...

    Ultegra gear lets me do that quite happily :thumb:

    Defensive riding/planning ahead takes care of most eventualities as well!

    So I picked this up back in January as part of Cycle2Work (click to embiggen)

    [IMG]

    Went out 4/5 times and promptly did sod all for months afterwards. I've recently moved and I am far closer to work now, so I am giving serious consideration to actually cycling in to work. I haven't done any serious exercise in a long time, and I'm quite far away from what's considered an "ideal" weight - therefore this may kill me. Or at least come close to it.

    On a more practical note, does anyone have any suggestions for a sturdy smartphone mount? My phone has a 5.5" screen, so it's a little on the large side (LG G3).

    Check out whats on offer by Topeak. I personally prefer my phone in my bag as I don't need to look at it while riding and have less chance of smashing it.

    I like the topeak ride case and it's fantastic but I don't know what cases it has for the android range.

    There is also the quadlock system which is supposed to be very good.

    Ooh very nice. I'll be digging my bike out again very shortly as shifts have changed at work so I'll be able to squeeze in some evening rides

    Cheers all, will check 'em out.

    Yeah my phone usually lives in my bag when I'm out on the bike, but I don't really know the route to work, or many of the roads around here at all. Just saves some expense on having to buy another GPS navigation device when I've already got a perfectly good one :).

    Moral of the story, all bikes with QRs should come with Shimano skewers by law.

    So summer road tyres that last long enough to warrant their price.... Tell me more.

    My ultrasports melted after 500-700 miles of commuting (just over a month).

    My last set of Vittoria Rubino Tech III lasted about the same.

    Are Gatorskins going to do any better? Its driving me mental.

    Gators are meant to be good an tough couple of guys I know use them and rack up plenty of miles on them before they start going thin.

    Rode my road bike for the first proper ride today coming to work, thinking i need some cockpit adjustments going by the massive neck ache its given me :( stems 100mm so going to swap it with my 90mm and flip it so its angled up to see if that helps If not i could probably knock the seat forward a touch or go mad an use an inline seatpost as opposed the the layback it has now.
    Bar that felt good brakes need more bedding in didnt clip in on account of the parents an children wandering around and mainly looking a bit confused at the site of a bicycle on a redway.

    I think I might have found my mojo again. Having ridden less than 60miles since the new year, I've clocked close to 160 miles this month.

    BLC, did you get sorted? If not I just saw this on Singletrack.

    Chaps, time has come to service the forks, Now i have two sets, some RS 318 u-turns and a Fox Alpine RL100, so spring and air.
    Any major pitfalls when it comes to servicing them? Im keen to learn to do them myself rather than the £99 a shot for TFTuned to do them.
