Thanks for the advice, think I'll get some of the shoes recommended and hope they aren't to expensive.

I bought two pairs of cycling tights the other day as it's going to get colder and also some cheap cycling glasses with interchangable lenses that don't fit lol, that's buying cheap for you, presently modding them with a dremmel. :cooldude:

Definitely go to a shop and try the shoes on if you possibly can. I find the fit and sizing of bike shoes really variable - they're also often sized in Euro sizings so you can't always get an exact match to your normal UK shoe size in any event.

Did a shorter 12 mile ride today as I forgot it's getting darker earlier now, made me go that much faster and did it in 53 minutes which is the fastest ive done yet :0

Briefly had numb toes 3 miles in and then numb again with about 3 miles to go, didn't notice myself curling my toes but I'm definitely going to get some decent shoes now.

Anyone on here got any good recommendations for overshoes? It's been pretty wet recently and I hate getting to work with soaking wet shoes. It seems that it's quite tricky to find decent waterproof overshoes for mountain bike shoes - there are tons for road shoes, but they aren't likely to fit my chunky clogger shoes :D

I think I've probably answered this question in my head but I'll ask anyway.

Is anything on the cheaper scale going to be okay for my sort of use or am I really looking at spending 70 plus quid for a pair of shoes.

I'm looking at these, most of my gear is muddy fox and seems good enough for my use but shoes I feel maybe a little more important.

Those are clipless pedal shoes, they're for use with clipless type pedals and they have a big cutout for the cleat in the sole. Even with the blank plate fitted they never play very well with flat pedals.

If £70 feels like to much, you could always go nuts and buy yourself some O.W.Ns, all £200 of them.

I thought that me the case as I could some sort of metal at the front, looks like I'm gonna have to suffer with my trainers for now as I just don't have £70+ that I can throw at some decent shoes :(

Worth bearing in mind a lot of the MTB skate style shoes that have cleats work just as well without. they just give you options to go either way. I use my northwaves with the cleat covers an have had no issues.

HT2 and GXP fittings are far far nicer than the old square tapers. That should see you though a few thousand miles to be fair. Looks very clean from angle too.

Spacer missing from the bb? Loose crank arm? RaceFace or Token bottom Bracket?

I foresee a package from Barnoldswick in your future.

Its an Uberbike one apparently they are well rated, not by me! no spacers missing. A shiny Barnoldwick package is tempting, so is a very very large one from them too.

Being GXP id need to get an adaptor plate for that BB though

That shouldn't physically be able to happen - the bearings should be "clamped" in by the crank arms (that's why they have a preload bolt - it puts a load on the BB bearings to secure it before tightening the actual crank arm bolts onto the spindle). Either your BB and crankset aren't compatible (and the bearings are slipping over the spindle/crank arm), you've missed a spacer, or the crank arm bolts have loosened and taken the "preload" out... Which is kinda terrifying, as that could mean one of your crank arms suddenly decides to jump ship while riding!

Its a GXP fitting so similar to HT2 but the NDS crank is screwed into the spindle so it cant actually fall off unless I wound out the 8mm fitting inside. There are no spacers of spring washers with this either on the NDS been the same on all my cranksets with them the bearing should not be able to wriggle free in this case it has so its now a bin job.

I use mountain bike shoes and pedals on my hybrid, with SPD cleats (none of this SPD-SL stuff). My shoes are Shimano MO89s and the pedals are Shimano A530s which are flat on one side and clip in on the other. Means I can use the bike with or without proper shoes, which is handy if I'm popping to the shops or whatever. The shoes are fine for walking in on pretty much any surface, although I'd not want to walk miles in them!
