We have a project like this in Newcastle. They charge a fortune for 2nd hand bikes, I wouldn't be surprised if they would have tried to get £1k for your Boardman.

Oddly enough I am clock watching because the BMX freestyle is at 12:55.

    Good lad Byron.

I've donated a few bikes. Two to family (kids) and another to a raffle for a children's heart charity. Very rewarding tbh.

Well they say they give them away… but I’ve got absolutely no way to verify that, I just have to take it on trust.

Either way, I’m long past the point of trying to get any money back for them. The only one that was bought outright was the Carrera ladies’, and even then it was on offer down to about £180. The other two were both through cycle2work. At £1000 9-10 years ago, the Boardman was certainly pricier than any other bike I’ve ever owned. But it’s a Halfords brand, so in cycling terms it’s still relatively entry-level. The cheapest carbon fibre road bike (from a brand I actually recognise) I can see on Evans Cycles is a Cannondale at £2200.

So today I did some things. I also found out that the stickers were no good. Long story, but it is a ink on clear vinyl issue. So, knowing Sunday did one like this...

    I changed mine up.

Reason I didn't change the others is.

Because basically they were fine. It is just the pink that gets ruined going over the green. The new decals will fix that, as they will be printed on white. Do note like the base coat the laminate on the vinyl is not optically clear because it is satin. So once the clear goes over....

Just absolutely fills me with childhood joy. I also filed all of the marks out of the stem and put some etch on.

    White will go on tomorrow.

Was going to ask you what you were thinking of the riding at the moment. Some painful looking spills yesterday.

Yeah they went for it. I watched it with mum (both women's and men's).

It was nuts. Somehow though and I don't know why Kieran always seems to play it somewhat safe in competition. It was obvious that flip tricks would win the day, given it was the olympics and I guess to a somewhat layman you would not understand how complex his spin tricks are. Kieran is a master of flip tricks too. IMO his first run was better than the second yet he scored less. The front flips were incredible, especially the flail (front flip flair).

That said his second run to me was disappointing.

What did make me laugh was when mum said "Wow, the boys make the girls look crap" :D

What I want to see now is Beth and Kai. I know Beth's dad paul, I am a huge fan of her. She is incredible. So yeah, bring on the racing. We also get to see Felicia Stancil. I need no words.

Oh yeah what was also funny watching with ma. She was like "I hope they all fall off and we win!" lmao. To me though? it wasn't about countries. Or who won what. It was about who was the best. Maybe because I love the sport so much IDK.

Accidentally deleted the image album on here.. no idea how I did that, selected 3 images to deleted, album went. Dumb.

Anywho, excuse to post more images I guess!

The Scout is a bike now. It needs a chain guide and a guard as the cranks sitting low, I’m going to swap the 27.5x2.3 at the rear out for a 27.5x2.6 to give me some more rear cushion and I’m also going to swap the front 29x2.3 for a 29x2.6 too. If that sorts the crank height enough then I’ll leave the cranks, if not, I’ll get a 10mm shorter crank length to compensate.

SLX is noisy as hell, prefer the NX!! Could just be a crap chain though, ordered one on the evilbay and may have got a fake one, it’s not the most well finished that’s for sure!

That's a nice looking bike. Mine looks very similar apart from it being yellow.

Thanks! Im proper happy with how its turned out to be fair.

I have a set of new 2.6 width tyres coming, these will raise the bottom crank collectively by 9.3mm making it just 5.7mm lower than it should be, this will hardly be noticeable given I also have 160mm travel in the front rather than 140/150mm so the cranks raised slightly as a result because of that. Good news as it means I don't need to swap the cranks out, thank god!

There's also a OneUp Chain guide/guard combo coming for piece of mind. It wasn't cheap but its cheaper than potentially shafting my crank/gear/bottom bracket or even the frame!

One thing I will say, as much as I can appreciate how good the SLX derailleur and shifter are, its grindy and feels like a bag of nails. I'm not convinced the bargain ebay chain was a real Shimano M1700 tbf. The finish is worse than the bargain basement £10 KMV I bought for the cooker and its mile behind the SRAM NX chain and its comparatively silky smooth gear changes and smooth operation. A new one will be picked up in the morning from halfords, from the places you can be sure to find a genuine chain, it also happens to be the cheapest, go figure!

Is it 12 speed? Do you know the mech cage is marked to help set b tension?

Not got a clue about that. Yes its 12 speed, never used the SLX before but the chain isn't matching the images of the Shimano chains so I do still think that's one issue that needs to be addressed as I don't want cheap sh**e ruining my 32T or cassette.

So these markers, how they work? Any links? I don't really know what I am supposed to be searching for.

Small update, it sounds grindy in 1st and 12th through the crank sprocket which has nothing to do with gear alignment at the cassette. This chain is 100% trash.

Oh and the toys are all clean and tidy ready for a good ruining over the coming kids summer break

For clarity, I last mechanic'd in 2017 and all 12 speed came after this. While I work in a bike shop now I run the website, help with sales on the shop floor and if I have too basic repairs or pre setup bike builds (I will NOT have my repairs go out the shop without being checked by mechanics). I didn't know about the mark on the mech until I set my Scout up in the usual way, then took into the shop to have the workshop manager check it over and he told me about it.

I’ll have a look in to thin over my lunch. It may make a difference but the crunchy front sprocket with the chain when at the outer gearing isn’t derailleur related so I will need a real chain. Bit miffed I’ve been had but it is what it is.

lmao. So they didn't show the BMX last night because of golden boy (boak) Murrray. Sooner that idiot goes away the better. I was a bit gutted tbh.

Any way, just watched all 6 races (three heats, men and women). Kye not so good. Beth? lmao. Won all three by a country mile. She's a machine !
