Was it not on the red button?
Murray lost and retired. He posted to Xwitter - "Never really liked tennis anyway!"

Went to halfrauds, got a new chain, it’s removed 90% of the crunchy chatter from the front ring, now I just need to sort the rear a little. It isn’t quite as silky as the NX but part of me wonders if the old chain (new but fake) has done some damage, the wear to the brand new front ring from just 5 minutes of trying to set it up is terrifying.

No. They were showing everything but a sport we won gold in last time. It was all about him, rimming him as usual. Sick of seeing him tbh. Must be desperate for attention.

@andrew8200m Were the scratches behind the chainring already there, along with the chunk out of the chainstay protector? If not, is the BB spaced correctly, has the old chain caused the damage?

The rubber "chunk" is just some factory trimming. Its not common but its a thing, my Status has a bit of it where its probably been stuck down slightly wrong and a neanderthal has just cut away at it to fix it rather than replace it. I'm not bothered about that, the slight lack of "stuck down" at the other end reaffirms this lazy install effort by factory. As for the rest, that's just the welds and the sun light, there are no marks or scratches. If I look from the top down, the BB is also spaced out correctly. One shim on the right if at 73mm (which it is) and if it was a smaller BB, down to 68mm, I would have more shims, perhaps 2 on the right and one of the left.

The only scratching and wear is on the teeth of the new 32T sprocket. And that's from a couple of minutes around the block to listen to it crunch + initial install/adjustments.

Inspecting the old chain vs the now new original, the quality is night and day. One is sharp, the other isn't, one has burrs, the other does not. One has "12S" on every link on bother sides, the other is blank on one side and has the Shimano part number on the other.

It was most definitely a fake chain and the damage has sadly already been done. Im just hoping its not enough to warrant a replacement sprocket. The cassette however seems to be fine. *touches wood*

After yesterday that is how my arms feel lmao. Talking of which. I turned a Freestyle Landing Gear fork into a race one.

Note the big fat 990 lugs. On the back there was a cable guide.

Noting I used what I had, a belt file. I used 12 belts. There is nothing more pant crapping than when they snap and go flying with bullet whizz sounds. Terrifying tbh. Just glad that is over.

    Fixed the stem issue.

    Parts so far.

Needed wheel nuts as the wheels did not have any (odd). Could only get 3/8 in brown. That will do tho.

    More things in.

The little one had her first ride out on the seat today, she absolutely loved it! Waving at motorbikes and other cyclists, picking blackberrys and getting all messy, finding some wild garlic, having fish and chips and screaming faster faster faster. She isn’t even three yet, I’m going to have a bike partner in this one!!

@Vault-Tec where did you get those blue and silver alloy pedals? They look rather sharp!

And you have boxes of bike parts like that laying around for the perfect time to make a bike?

    Yup.

First couple of years you have to buy so much. Then over time you start piling things up. So I literally start part shopping in the stash.

In 2018 I did a restoration of a 2000 Standard Bykes STA. Rode it for a year with all modern parts then started finding NOS 90s parts so they were on that for a while.

They’re obviously very modern so would not be so great on a all period correct bike but with the Mongoose I want all of the parts other than a few to be cutting edge modern parts.

AliExpress to the rescue!! So, between Shimano and Wolfrace I needed to spend in the region of £60 for the parts needed to get my SLX shifter to mount on to my SRAM lever.

Some searching here and there and I found the same parts on AliExpress for a whopping £3.89 including delivery. As it is pig iron and machined aluminium, I doubt it’ll cause me any issues. Either way, that’s a chunk to save.

Just many, many hours of drawing. This took about four attempts.

I only got there as someone is selling one state side and took some pics.

I also found what is left of an 80s decal sheet. Plate decals prolly.

So today my OneUP chain guide and bash guard combo arrived. I’ve just got it fitted as the bottom bracket needs a little more love than the full squish given its lower to the ground because of set up choices. Hopefully this does its job!

Yes the image is terrible but it was super bright outside and reflecting on white surfaces that then made the black barely viewable. No judgement :p
