I bought 1 of these for my bike cleaning duties. There is literally no crack or cranny where 1 of these brushes cant get too, combined with a bottle of Muc-Off my EX8 came out absolutely gleaming top to bottom last time I gave her a thorough clean up.

Ok I just decided to go have a ride. It's 3:38 AM and I'm a bit wasted, but I figured it's now or never if I want to take some nice pictures of the city. With any luck the rising sun will look lovely in about half an hour.

    Well for future reference.
    • An 11mm allen key can be supplemented with a 7/16th (11.1125mm) for reduced cost and ease of availability
    • Bontrager don't seem to like selling on the web but their freehub body can be had from at trek dealer for about £15

So old one removed and new part on order. Going to see if i can get this one de-gunked and get it to live again.

    Thanks for the help folks

What was the free hub actually doing / or not doing?

Not doing... It wasn't engaging effectively in constant freewheel if you know what i mean.

You have sticky pawls then. The pawls are teeth held in with a clip, they naturally stick out which is them engaged (when engaded it is these teeth that drive the wheel), the rattle you hear when freewheeling is then clicking over the teeth within the freehub body.

Usually giving them a lube with some GT85 ot TF2 spray will sort this but that will kill any grease. If you can strip it, give it a good clean, regrease then put it back together or just whack a new freehub on.

Bathed it over night in some concentrated degreaser and dry fitted it to the wheel seems to engage now. Like you say sticky pawls. Its pretty rusty back there, i can see one bearing set and they are in bad shape. Going to try lubing it with engine oil as has been suggested in some parts of the web only worry is eating the seal but since I've ordered the part any way its no real loss if it dies.

Not had it down to the mctrails yet but hopefully get time during the week.

Excuse the crappy picture the Hero's camera only works in a very narrow range of light conditions, this is an example of too light...

Just completed my first long distance several day ride two days ago. 278km from Skye to Crieff with 2/3 of it off road. Wonderful!

Feeling totally fine other than my ass. I feel like It's been savaged. Chammy cream and sudo creme did nothing!

Just upgraded the cable discs on my fire mountain deluxe to elixir cr carbons after finding them for £150 on merlincycles, now just need to either get the avid bleed kit or make one up myself so I can make the hoses quite a bit shorter.

Only had my bike 6 months but after doing a lot more cycling than I thought I would getting very tempted to do some more upgrades-looking at changing the dart2 forks to rockshox rebas/sids, new wheels/tyres and discs (the hope floating ones look rather nice) and next years sram kit looks tempting as well.....

Ahah what a ride. So far neither me or my buddy had fallen over on this summer (well I haven't properly in ages), but it all changed today. First he fell over to his left and somehow managed to hurt his right shoulder(!?) and then I hit a rock, flew over the handlebars in a very, very slow manner and somehow the bike managed to end up leaning against a tree... With the rear wheel up. There's just something about this day.

Been using My Tracks Linkie on my HTC Tattoo to collect data on my rides.

    Exactly 3 minutes 53
seconds after I started my 55 minute ride home from work an abrupt pause in speed, and movement. As my my rear wheel exploded in a hail of green sealant...Behold a rusty hook protruding
    from my tyre.

Pisses me off what people leave on the roads, this is my 6/7th puncture this year due to nails, pins and crap being left on the road...oh and a few blow outs from potholes.

Anyone have any experience with the Fox Float R rear shock? It came standard on a bike whose other components were too good to pass up. I cannot stand this thing. I can bottom it out like it's my job( I only weight around 180 with all my gear on). It appears to leak just enough air each ride to disrupt the correct sag for my bike.

Should I get something else or is there a way to fix this? Also I contacted Fox and they told me the air issue is not something that will clear up, they suggest I get a shock pump and correct the sag before every ride.

I've been looking at a Fox Van RC coil, I'm hoping it will be a bit more resistant to bottoming.

D-Cyph3r - Surely that tyre just needs the screw whipping out and a puncture repair kit on the inside to seal the hole and protect the inner tube? It's only a tiny hole after all.

My personal experience with the Fox Float range of shocks has been nothing but positive. Have you tried adjusting the air pressure in your shock? It may be too low for your weight.

And if the shock is loosing air, check the shaft for any scratches or damage which is always a sure sign that you are loosing air. If you find no damage, it could be a problem with your air seals. It's a super easy procedure to replace them that's well documented on the fox website. The seals them selves aren't even that expensive at ~£13 making it a worth while hour or so spent.
