    Wordpress has everything you need...
Just go to wordpress.org and check them out. You can download ready made themes and have a fully functional website running in a matter of minutes. You can even have the website hosted for free by wordpress (provided it's not for commercial purposes and doesn't promote anything ilegal).

You can use wordpress which would work fine for what your doing, Altho i think my self forum software would be allot better,

Have you thought about using forum software, For instance Phpbb3, MyBB, exc then just adding a news front, Then your club would be able to have discussion's on the board, and be able to mingle allot more,

The problem is, if you start with wordpress, Joomla,
-Let's say for example you get a decent theme, then in the future you want a forum for discussion, your going to have problems making them match, and allot of websites end up looking pretty good, with a ugly forum, Then you'll have to pay someone to make your forum fit in...

As a designer my self, I'd rather design a forum skin, then a website to make as its allot easier, and the website has next to no limits where things can go exc,

These are all web based, so you don't have to deal with dream weaver, and allot of coding issues,

Hell you could even just setup a forum, and start from their get a nice theme, then expand it as it grows, You'd only need to edit the banner to your liking, Which i'll be more then happy to design you a banner in photoshop,

I also use to do fishing, and the community i was part of was http://www.southwestseafishing.co.uk/ Altho it is a "area biased website" It looks lovely and works perfect, just to give you an idea.

    Hope this helps

I might check first whose going to host your site, they usualy provide free programmes. Although the norm is to create your website first before thinking about a host.

Another vote for square space, its a great tool for creating sites that don't look like they have been created using a site maker.

I would usually think of my host first, or at least have certain criteria in mind, especially with things like forums as you need to know if the host provides database support, if so how many and how large. Also you have to consider the server itself, will it run your site, ie can they host php or asp(.net) do they support the backend languages you want. Obviously this is a bit off topic for the OP but I thought it a valid point :)

I would go about creating a site on something like square space, but also think about creating one yourself as a project afterwards. You can use the free site as a guide and try and recreate, I would suggest going for PHP (says the asp.net developer :D). I find PHP a lot easier when creating simple sites which do not require masses of database accesses, it also means you don't need to use visual studio for creation which saves time installing

It all depends what you want.

If you want a forum, Wordpress won't really cut it.
If you want a site where you can publish announcements, news, events, photos etc i.e. where there is very little user interaction, it's just 'information' then Wordpress will be good.

    For forums, I recommend http://www.phpbb.com/
You can add a portal to it so you have a 'front page' with announcements etc: http://www.phpbb3portal.com/

Seconded. Visual Studio (including the express editions) is a fantastic code editor - vastly superior to anything else I've ever tried (and I spend a LOT of time in Eclipse too!)

Honestly? Just go with a free blogging platform like Wordpress.com or blogger etc etc, so much easier and you don't have to have any technical knowledge!
