I have just got a USB web cam

Is there a program for windows xp i can use so i can set it to record and use it as a security camera.
Then i can play the videos back through windows media player / VLC or something like that.

Would also be good if i could take pictures aswell as videos, and maybe a beep when it detects motion or something if this is possible.

    [For Windows XP]

    Thanks! :)

I tried Dorgem a while ago on an old LG webcam under XP. Motion detection, iir, is one of the options but I have no idea if it beeps. In the event, we rigged up a Polycom camera to do the job, which had it's own software.

I guess you could, but recording an avi for 24/7 will use up a lot of hard drive space, even at webcam res. Setting it to record when it sees motion might save space, but you also might miss out on stuff. As I said, it was a while ago, but since it's free you could always give it a try.

Fyi, internally we use a few different systems for our cameras depending on what they're used for and where. Forgetting the full CCTV system, we also have four Axis network cameras that take snapshots (instead of avi) at 900 frames per hour with 10 hours at 640x480 (as jpeg) using up 300mb.

We're on older kit, but the 210/210A is similar to what we use.

The LG these days is just used to see who's at the door and the Polycom has it's own software that saves to asf, so those won't help.

The problem with most good software is that it gets released in beta for free, works fantastically but then future updates are only available to those who pay..

I remember a program available for the n95 that enabled you to log on to your computers webcam and view what it was seeing. Some security cameras now send you text messages when your house alarm goes off.
