    Dear All

Not sure if this is the right forum to post on, but am looking for some advice re a website I would like to create. Myself and a few friends play in a poker league and would like to create a website to show tournament results and upcoming events etc. None of us have any experience in this area so I am looking to get some suggestions on good webhosts, especially sites with good easy to use software for creating the site.

There'll only be about 20 people who look at the site and nothing else special is required, although I would quite like to create a forum area on the site for the players to discuss available dates etc.

    Any advise gratefully appreciated.

    Many thanks

Sounds like you'll need a host that provides 2 mysql databases.

Once for the forum and one for wordpress (or similar) that will give you a way of producing a site easily.

dreamhost are usually good & cheap

I use bluehost for hosting, I have found them to be reliable and cheapish.

I bought a domain and hosting from GoDaddy http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/wordpress-hosting.aspx?ci=15005

I paid for twelve months for £40.39. Thats an Economy package. Takes about 24 hours to setup their end. And from then on no issues. 1 click installs for a basic forum, wordpress and others.

Direct access to to admin control for both. Though I only use the WordPress package.

I think my year with bluehost was ~£70 or maybe £80, but that is with unlimited everything. I buy domains through daily, they seem to be the cheapest, easy to manage too.

JustHost is ~£3 a month and uses cPanel so has all the same one-click installers as the others.

I've not had an issue with them and have many sites hosted there.

alternatively you could use yahoo groups, close off public registrations. But a forum would certainly give you way more flexibility.

I would personally use facebook groups, way more easier to get people's attention.

I'd have to agree with JoeK, a facebook group that was closed off to all but your members would be the quickest and simplest way to do this, provided all your members are on facebook that is.

If you start there you can then go on to hosting your own site later on if it warrants it. At least starting with facebook would cost you nothing.

However there would be no proper forum with facebook, but with 20 members you could argue if one would even be needed?

Only if you don't get nagged off their server.
You have to have traffic and must be completed, no 'Under construction'
