Hay Darklord7854. Im happy for your ideas and comments. Thats how we all learn. I have used tables and frames before and also hotspots. Still learning coding and ways to build sites. I have Photoshop CS3 extended, Adobe Illustrator CS3, Microsoft Expression Web Studio, and couple other little programs. Yeh think having it in the center would make it a lot nice.
If you really want to know how to make good websites then dump your programs and use notepad to edit code. Also learn css and divs they really are a god send. If i had just got that template i would spend the next few days removing any source of tables. Tables really are that annoying.
--------------------------------------------------------- Notepad. Man I have tryed that before it takes so long and you have to no what your doing. I have the PSD of the site thats 1 file thats got no tables in it that i can do any thing with. At the moment its looking like this. Still not happy with the big banner and menu buttons thing at top of page. Also still got to change the backgrounf a little and the bottom of the page. Designing a off-road buggy site. After spending the last hour or more sorting out the PSD and editing and deleting layers i didnt need I found a layer that looked blank so I pressed "Ctrl t" for transform and there was sumthing there but it was off the work area. This is what i found. How strange is that Think thay used the backgound off the right side of it and forgot to delete that part. lol. I also found a couple layers under layers that didnt need to be on the design. Anyways im off to bed. Going to do more work on the template tomorrow.
But you'll end up with a better site, better loading times,... and knowledge about what's going on...
What do you guys think about layers? any one used it before? I'm working on new site and was going to use it. Another thing is HOW I can center the whole page? like the BT front page
Well, the way to learn how to code is using a simple web editor (to color the different tags for easy reading). You'd be surprised at how incredibly easy divs are to use when styled out with CSS, and they generally look a lot better and it's easier to fix cross-browser compatibility issues (firefox, internet explorer, opera, safari, etc). Also, the PSD is merely pictures, it has nothing to do with the actual code, you just use the PSD to cut out pictures you want to use in your layout. If you use firefox, you can get the add-on called Firebug which enables easy temporary editing of websites, it allows you to edit the CSS and stuff on the fly to try changes before committing them to your actual file. Also, to center a website, you just need to center the main table(s) or div(s) in the code
I havent used them. Is the Microsoft Expressions web you using? looks like mine but little differant.
Oh ok I have Microsoft Expressions studio 1 and the 4 programs all it 1 book. have only ever used Microsoft Expressions Web. If you dont mind me asking whats your website going to be about? You got a design made?
Yeah I never used the rest only Expression Web That not my own website I lost hope to make my own site. I'm disappointed about it. That site, It's for a book Publishing company for an American guy. he wants to make it for free because he works on my school as English dude. He helps teachers and students with there English
This thread makes me sad. QTF- You seriously need to look into CSS and DIV's etc. http://www.cssbasics.com/ http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_intro.asp
Eugh... Yea... Agreed with Fr4nk and dom_ this thread is an example of how not to do it! I think those 'layers' are what anyone with knowledge would call absolutely positioned divs with z-index. Do not build a website like that. So unnecessary...
Thanks for the comments. Couple Q's? 1. Can a CSS or DIV's site be made to look like my design? 2. Any one got any links to sites that are done in DIV so i can look?
Have you actually looked at any coding tutorials since this thread started? You're asking silly questions.
My own (albeit incomplete) website was done by hand from scratch: www.thecomputertailor.co.uk. I am also part way through building one for my Dad: www.acorn-furniture.co.uk/home.shtml Just bear in mind that I am NOT under any circumstances a designer, so they don't look particularly stylish. However, they should both load pretty quickly, and all the code is standards compliant. Also, if you want to ask about how things were done, I should know the answer

For that
