With this mod, I've pretty much finished the front of my PC60. I originaly wanted to have a cutout bezel of aluminum, like my other drives, but it was just to damn fiddely to cut (In some places only 1mm of aluminum between cutouts - bends real easy). So as I don't use the drive that often, I've 'sorta' stealthed it (Yep, I know it goes against what I said in previous threads, but it's a free county and I changed my mind in this case! ) So here it is: The floppy drive has been moved back into the case, and each bay cover has been fronted in perspex, held on with some of those M4 X 6 bolts left over from my window and drive mods. The cover that sits over the floppy has had the 'nipples' (ooh-err! ) filed down, and the last 10mm of the 'tongue' bent over at 90 deg. This was done by scoring with a sharp stanley knife 10mm in from the end on both sides of the tongue, and then bending over with a pair of pliers. This allows the cover to sit flush with the face of the floppy when in place. The other baycovers are just left as they are, except for the persepx on top. Decals where added in the same way as the article. So there you go! Only the etch and the case lighting to go! TTFN GOO
I guess you pull the blanking plate out and there is the floppy drive.... I like my floppy stealthin better, my floopy drive sits on my bedroom floor until I want to use it then it goes in my case. The only time I ever use a floppy drive is to format/flash BIOS. Nice GOO, get that window etch done, you've put it off long enough
That's pretty cool GOO. I can't say I'm keen on the look of your case, but we all have an opinion. It's still damn well done, and you've come up with a very original mod, which not many people do now Respect!
As spike surmised, all you do is pull the top plate out as these movies show: Revove Cover Drive Usage It's easier to remove the floppy when you're not trying to juggle a camera in your other hand....
Looks great. I like the fact you dont see the floppy. I also like the fact that its easy to get to if you need to use it. Nice job.
GOO, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this is a fudgin beautiful case! I've never seen anyone do anything quite like this before!! Just one question: Why not leave the floppy blanking plate in place permanently? Do you actually use floppies?
Well - every now and then. The missus uses it for saving her Job applications, and I use it for flashing BIOS, but that's about it. But it's there if I need it - I don't have to go hunting for a drive at a critical moment!
LOL look out Great Old One, if you're at home working on robo-mods and see a little red dot flicker on your screen, DUCK!!! The terminator iz comin too get j00!!
This is one of the few lian li's that I like! Can't wait to see it w/ the etch and lighting. Oh, and I hope you have the heavy-duty reinforced fiberglass blades for that dremel
An inspiration... Wow great mods. I just love the case, friend gave me like to your article and just got me hooked then and there. Your work is impressive... Like the fact that the drive is still there just hidden. Can't wait to finish my first mod... sure it's only a power/reset button. It's the ugly square red button for the clear-pc...
