So - my plans for the weekend got rained off... On occasions like these I never find myself doing the useful things I could be doing, this weekend no exception. I bought two of these little switches a few weeks back - one kinda by accident, so decided as I don't have the time to build a new PC with some case mods, I'd improve one of these. Initial plan was either going to be clean black or white with some kind of simple cutout in the top, lit from inside. Portal themed case mods obviously haven't been overdone enough yet so this has turned into another one I ran out of cutting disks on my mini drill cutting the logo out - serves me right for buying cheap rubbishy tools. I saved some silver mesh at work last week which I'll get next week, not sure if the black or silver will look better with a white case yet. The modded bit has temporarily been hand brushed orange (badly) to see how orange looks - I'm not impressed with the colour so waiting on the white spray now. I'm not sure what I'll do with the LEDs on the inside yet - might have orange or blue connected to power and then 8 of the other colour in series with the 100mbps lights for each port, in a ring around the logo. Total time spent so far has been a few hours, if I'd had the paint, could probably have been finished today. I'll update when I've got my paint and figured out the LED plan. The other switch will wait for the next rainy weekend!
Bit of an update today - didn't have too much time. Got my spray paint - loving amazon quick shipping. I blue inked over the green port LEDs and disconneted the 100Mbps ones (left the 10Mbps ones but if something's connecting at 10Mbps it shouldn't be...) and then soldered on to connect my blue port LEDs. The ports have kinda been a bit hacked but you won't see it Only got the basecoat/primer on so far but it's looking good in white! More updates soon!
