Anyone else regularly lift weights? like with a preset daily routine, and actually trying to build mass and weight? Not sure if others find it to be as relaxing and fulfilling as i do
I have weight lifting for PE. Im one of the few people that actually lifts weights, most of them just fool around. This year I went from bench pressing 85 pounds to 155 pounds. Im hoping to get up to 165 by the end of the year. I like it a lot better than regular PE. Hopefully i can get it next year also. On the weekends i use my dad's limited weight set.
I like it. I try and go every other day. Dips are my favorite - anything that requires the body's natural motion I gravitate towards. I'm not sure how much I can max on the bench, but a resonable estimate is 225 lbs.
Im thinking about starting something like this, ive recently lost alot of weight, so am much happier with my appearance but id like to do some lifting etc to define myself. Can anyone give me any really basic exercises/tips i can do at home? im 6ft1 13st
Well i basically used to weighttrain 3 times a week with a preset routine and different body parts a day I think it was something like : Sunday Chest Incline Dumbbell Benchpress Flat Benchpress Medium-Grip Tricep V-Bar Tricep Pushdowns Pushups Shoulders Front Military Presses Dumbbell Front Raises Standing Side Dumbbell Raises Wednesday Back T-Bar Lat Pulldowns Bicep Alternating Dumbbell Curls Preacher Curls Forearm Reverse Grip EZ Bar Curls Friday Legs Squats Leg curls Leg presses Just crap like that really and a protein shake after every workout to finish everything up...at that time i was quite buff and proud but I have stopped for almost 2 months now ! Coz of exams and just the fact I have no time ... blah blahbut I have made a plan to start again during my long ass Summer holidays So if u have any gym training questions ask me or visit www.bodybuilding.com they have many great articles and even though most of the people on the forum are ****en retards some actually help... good luck EDIT: Also the common myth of OMGWTF does weighttraining stunt growth no it doesn't ... i started when i was about 5'11 and im 6'2 now at 16 years old and there are much younger poeple who have started...it only actually stunts growth when you are doing like quarter ton squats ... and those are like power lifters...
I regularly exercise, weights and cardiovascular. I find it a lil harder to build the muscle cos I’m a vegetarian but I take Maximuscle supplements to help me. I’m even more serious about it now since I applied to the navy so I have to get my fitness levels up. keep it up ppl its worth it.
I have a similar routine to ou7blaze, working a different muscle set each session. However, it is good i dea every few weeks to change what body parts you work together. Like Modding_Monkey i've started to keep a strict routine now due to an armed forces application. Luckily I find it good fun and very rewarding so I don't mind too much.
Hell yeah, fun aint the word. I love exercise, I love knowing that each session I do I’m reaching a goal and pushing my self that little further every time to make myself that little bit stronger or faster.
i used to a lot but now im just fat... im gonna get in shape again soon tho... weights is cool, i didnt think many people here would be into it actually
Exactly what i thought, initially, but if there's one thing the BiT community will do, it's surprise you.
I do lift weights at home pretty often, but the weights are mostly cardboard boxes filled with old items. I can tell you that it was quite a workout to find a few old hard drives. Of course, my favorite exercise happens to be modding. Some types are actually hard workouts.
well yeah it really is pathetic but then I guess PE is a general weight lift session for everyone not gym goers...
i think i would take up weight lifting except it's just 'getting into it' also lots of people who do it end up as body builder super muscle men/women who i would say do look kinda strange when they take it up as their life.
getting the physique of a body builder takes years of dedicated training, and a very strict diet. Shouldn't worry about it too much.
Hmm I train about 3 times a week but with not change in sessions, each time i work on my chest, biceps, triceps, back and legs. TBH the amount of people who think that the amount you can bench press can be used to judge strength is pathetic.
Usually the first thing people ask is how much you can bench. For the most part it is proportional to your strength as long as you have an even workout and don't just do bench pressing or never do it. Its funny watching the people that only bench press do other exercises. Im not saying that it is always a good judgement of strength, but it seems for the most part it is.
i used to work out 3 times a week when i played (american) football a few years ago. basically, i did the same workout everyday, only i increased the weight and decreased the reps gradualy over the span of say 6 weeks. not that great for mass but worked great for strength. my school had a weightroom with loads of freeweights, and several machines. i found that you dont have to go crazy with a ton of supplimental exercises, my rountine involved some bench pressing, some squats, and no more than 2 dumbell exercises for my arms. i would vary them a little, say doing incline bench instead of regular bench maybe once a week. i prefer freeweights, as you have to use many muscles to hold them steady and keep balance rathen then just push like in a machine. as for diet - i know this is horrible but Kentucky Fried Chicken. i worked there (free food!) and i put on 60lbs in a year - most (not all) muscle. high in protein and damn tasty too. if youre just casually trying to do something - try this if im feeling up to it whenever a tv commercial comes on i do sets of either 10 pushups or 10 situps. same for map changes in CS:S. you would be suprized how such a little effort repeated frequently enough can do.
well Benchpress seems to be the benchmarking in strength or something I dunno why I guess it's coz your legs and chest are the 2 largest muscle groups, squats are another exercise people seem to always ask first or second. BTW bodybuilders are genetically gifted but even that doesn't mean they are supermen they use steroids. Look up Ronnie Coleman in google pictures seriously man he is HUGE. EDIT: Oh btw forgot to add to my post incline benchpress seems to be the way to go as far as benchpresses, it works your upper chest more making it look more "fuller" so when u get old u don't have droopy boobs lol Also freeweights are much better than machines as it allows the bodies natural range of muscle and utilises its stabiliser muscles... Um however there are some machine weights which are ok, some of the leg machines are fine.
