This probably should have gone in the games forum but i am hoping for more responses here. I have never really been able to use a Xbox gamepad or any gamepad with thumb-sticks because of my strange thumbs which I seem unable to control once they are placed upon these sticks from hell. I had no problems with the old D pads? which I used with the original Playstation 1 but once they became elevated I lose control. My question is this do they make a decent gamepad that will work with Windows 7 and has pads as opposed to sticks?
Is it? Not having a console not upto date with prices. I sure I paid 18 quid for my Xbox game pad a few years ago. I like the look of the Steam pad may just have a punt on it. Thanks.
I think its your best option. Even if you find a dpad controller that is compatible with games, it will be difficult to control a game that expects some form of analogue input. For example turning in an fps would be either way too fast or way too slow because you could only pick one speed with which to turn using a d-pad. (For any PC master race people out there getting annoyed at the thoughts of using a gamepad on an fps, I'm only using it an example for illustrative purposes)
Actually i am not to worried about FPS games but I am playing Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris which would be better with a pad and I have played other games like the original Dead Space that would have benefited from a gamepad. So would like one to hand for such times.
The FPS example was just illustrative. The same principle applies to any game that expects an analogue input. Be that the steering wheel in a car game, or trying to position lara to make some weird jump or target an enemy.
This is not your usual Tomb Raider game because of the fixed camera angle I find I am having great difficulty getting her to go in the right direction comfortably using a KB.
Is it because of the joysticks being too high? Have you thought about a gamepad with small, sliding joysticks such as what a 3DS has? I found this, maybe it's up your street; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Compatible/dp/B00FP825JQ
That actually looks pretty good but I think I am going to go with the Steam Controller. But i think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with reference to the height. Thanks.
There's quite a few low profile gamepads, they're mostly aimed at the mobile market, but can be connected to a PC easily.
It is not a question of disliking sticks it more that I do not have the dexterity that I once had and I find them very difficult to use. A bit of rheumatism does not help. I do not have the same problems with the PS 1 gamepads.
On reflection and a bit of research this morning I suspect that the Steam Controller is not for me. So still looking
