So it's my birthday today, and it's only noon, but I know it's going to be crap...So I figure, screw it - I'll ask. Does anyone have an unwanted gfx card they'd be willing to give away? Anything better than a 6570... Late last year the company I was working for closed down, leading to me losing my house, and my fiance. And to top it all off my graphics card had a meltdown...Why didn't I enter the TGS's giveaway competition I hear you ask? Well, because at the time it was all too fresh, and too painful to recount...and because it was so fresh I was still stuck on all the details, so a post would have ended up a short novel. Given the generosity I've seen on the forums lately I just figured I'd chance my arm and ask...given that "better than a 6570" isn't that big an ask anyway, heh. So what do you say bit-tech? sucky sucky, 5 dollah
I don't have anything I can give you unfortunately, but I can say Happy Birthday. I have a 5770 in my work (14 month placement) computer, which I won't be using in about 7 months when I finish, so I can give it to you then. But, I'm guessing it would be too late by then and you will already have a graphics card.
Same, all I can say is Happy Birthday as I don't have a card to give away. And like they say, you don't ask you don't get ; )
Is a GTS 8800 512 better? Here's one of those comparisony thingymabobs If so then you are more than welcome to it.
Yeah it held its own pretty well up until I decided to go down the Eyefinity route and had to buy a new card.
Thanks for the birthday wishes peeps. 7 months? I dunno...maybe. It depends if I can get out of this rut. Last year, falling so hard, so fast I'm finding it really difficult to get motivated. Everything in my life changed in one fell swoop. Everything I'd spent the last 5 years working towards was just...gone. And now I'm in a crappy little rental house, on social security, with no human connection in my life because I'd invested so much of my life in kick-starting my career. Christmas - didn't get a single present, or even speak to a single person I'm that isolated. I'm thinking the problem I can't snap out of it is that I've no joy in my life. I open up eclispse now and stare blankly at it like a character from a David Lynch movie, thinking -What's the point? - "In heaven everything is fine. You got your good things and I got...oh, actually no I don't". I just figured maybe if I even had the option to relax and play a videogame every once in a while, and just for a moment step out of the world full of thoughts like "A bus trip in to the city centre, after rent and bills, represents 11.6% of your total weekly food budget" - Then it might go a ways towards jolting me back in to productivity, if not . Y'see this is why I didn't want to post this stuff in the first place. Goddamn outpouring lol. But yeah, hopefully I won't be PMing you in 7 months time. I appreciate the offer though. /EDIT Whoa didn't realize there were already more replies. I actually have to leave to go sign on! Back later...
My old card, the one that gave up the ghost, was actually a trusty ol' 8800gt I've also had an offer of a 6770 through PM. 8800gts vs HD6770 - that's a tough one.- The 8800 having very slightly better performance, but the 6770 having more memory. I think I'll stroke my beard ponderously until tomorrow. After all, I only posted a few hours ago and there might still be "decision-maker" sitting gathering dust in someone's cupboard. And bit-tech - you rock!
All I have spare is a geforce 210, your welcome to it but it sucks at playing games or a 64mb pci card I use for testing/playing bf3 in eyefinity D)
Would love to help (seems like old GPUs just pile up) but something tells me the 4870 sitting on the shelf with no anti-static bag and no memory of where it came from probably doesn't work. There should be a 8600GTS around here too but that doesn't beat the other offers. Good luck and happy birthday!
Ill have a look at work.. i know these times well as i've been in the same situation. trying to scrape together another 5 pound for petrol tomorrow! All this to get through until the 28th and the world is all better again. I dont mind helping out someone else
I have a 5770 lying around, i think i left it at a mates house but when i can get my hands on it I'll send it your way? <3
One 8800GTS 512 winging it's way to you as we speak buddy. Hope you get some enjoyment out of it! NB: It's a noisy bugger until the drivers kick in. CEX actually refused to buy it due to this issue! I started to explain that while it does have a loud fan, once the drivers slow it down from 100% it is perfectly operational. I didn't spend long arguing once I saw the blank looks on their faces. Ah well, their loss, your gain!
+rep to daverobson08 I think most if not all of the 8800 series had noisy fans on boot. I remember my GTX sounding like a jet engine until the bios had initialised (about 3 seconds) and then like a hair dryer until windows had loaded the driver! Then I ripped the cooler off and got myself acquainted with the work and products of Mr Edvard König
I'm pretty sure others have more recent cards but I'll offer my 8800GTX for consideration. Just drop me a message if you want to take it for a twirl. It served me very well and would be great to see it help someone else out.
+rep to daverobson08 indeed - wish I could give you more - they should have an uber-rep icon alongside the normal one. And that icon should represent a sexual favour of some kind. Like this one (you will never unsee it) Don't worry - fully aware of the 8-series fans. I used to let my friends smoke in my computer room, and the GT acted and sounded exactly like a Dyson. One of the things I'm looking forward to most if giving a friend (who's running a 8500) the card I'm using currently - according to that hwcompare site it's 2-3x faster.
That was fast! Notice the copy of COD2 thrown in for good measure... If you haven't already given daverobson08 some rep you should do so now
