    my flatmate has one, it does the job.

    Its an external hdd - theres not much to them really. :)

    Western Digital should be pretty reliable.

    After doing a quick search on newegg I found some 1TB external HDDs for like £51.79 (80 USD). I didn't look any further than that though for like brand and speeds and such. I'm never too picky regarding an external HDD other than looking for price and storage capacity. At least I'm not as picky as say when I'm buying a motherboard or something similar.

    I just bought a 2TB Elements drive (£100) for backups. It gets the job done but is a little slow. I was copying to it at about 18MB/sec or thereabouts.
