    As far as I know, only a few do this. Employers still like to see bums on seats!
    Hmm. Depends if you call internet shopping "production on demand". Delivery speeds are certainly ridiculously fast now - I remember having to wait two to four weeks for some things in the past.
    Seems to be going that way, doesn't it? It's easy to say it's a bad thing, but in the end we're just adapting to our environment.

    All well and good but this study also believe the described effects would be achieved through teletext. Rather wide of the mark there.

    Its the Heath idea of holding onto manufacturing. Refusing to let go of past ideals because you fear/don't understand the future. History is full of people opposing change hence the reason the high street hasn't died already. Tho the high street does offer something the internet can't, well it should offer but it doesn't hence the reason its failing and looks like it'll die, and thats the personalised touch. You walk into a shop how many employees just grunt at you? Tesco staff are too busy talking about what they're having for dinner rather than actually serve you. It feels like the stores are out to milk you rather than provide you with what you want. I go into a store looking for something and they try to sell me everything under the sun apart from what I want, thats if they even acknowledge im there. the best example of that is game, it should be so much more. If they want me to pay the prices (Game is a rip off) make the experience worthwhile. If Everything everywhere stores deliver on their ideas of what buying a phone should be like it could be the model to save the high street. (Maybe I'm getting a bit carried away)

    Nah, you're right. Customer service in big chains is mostly heading down the toilet, the only thing they care about is profit and the only way they know to increase it is to offer products at lower prices by buying greater quantities of them. Game don't even manage that, they just really suck to be honest. I can't remember the last time I bought something in there without using a gift card I'd been given.

    thats the thing tho, it isn't just the big chains but small ones too. Think of the small cafe. How many times has the person practically thrown the food in front of you or rolled their eyes when you ask for something else? Even big fancy places they can't wait to get you seated by simply pointing and grunting. The polite "is everything alright" is simply empty words cause regardless of what you say they've taken off like a whippet. It feels like school where you need to sit with your hand up to get attention. Its came to the point that in a furniture shop I started whistling and clicking my fingers to get the sales person to stop playing on his phone and actually come to serve me. Very rude yes but if stores want to distinguish themselves from the internet it will have to be on service.
