just had an email from blizzard telling me that my WOW account has been hacked. i NEVER tell any one my details, so a key logger is the only thing i can think of im using AVG and its not picking up anything. can anyone advice me on what to do im kinda panicked using XP Pro
Blizzard wouldn't send you an email telling you your account has been hacked. They'd only send you an email telling you of any action they have taken on your account due to illegal activity such as power levelling and gold selling, etc. Then it'd be up to you to prove you have done nothing wrong and find out how somebody else has gotten your details. Have you tried logging into the game? Is there any suspicious activity such as missing gold or items? edit: download spybot search and destroy, adaware free, and scan for spyware.
I have 3 emails, first was a password change notice second was a password reset notice and third is below Greetings, Following several reports of disrupting the in-game chat, we have issued the World of Warcraft account ####### a 3 hour suspension and issued the account a new password. No form of contact from you is needed as the account should automatically become available once the 3 hour suspension has elapsed. Please note that in case of any further reports in the future, the account may be disabled again. A new, randomly-generated password will be emailed to you shortly. After you have successfully logged in to the World of Warcraft with this new password, please go to the Account Management page (https://www.wow-europe.com/account) and create a new, secure password. It can take up to one hour for our system to generate and send the new password. If you have not received a password within one hour of this message’s delivery, please check your Spam, Junk or Suspect Mail folders. If you believe that this suspension is incorrect or if you have not been playing yourself, please make certain that you secure the account. For more information regarding account security, please review the information below: Account compromises are usually the result of the registered player of the account sharing his or her login information or playing on a computer that has a virus. Regards, Account Administration Team Blizzard Entertainment Europe they got my username correct and my password no longer works Im not massively bothered about the WOW account as at the end of the day it a game, what im worried about is if they have key logged my wow account then they will be able to key log my bank details aswell, as i do online banking
Original emails were scams, new one looks legit. What email address was it sent from? If you receive the new password by email, then you've nothing to worry about as far as I can see. Open a ticket and tell them about the emails and the situation. If you don't receive the new password, email them immediately and tell them.
Is it not your email account they've got the password for? If it was me, i'd shoot for the persons email account first, because once i had that i could either search their inbox for passwords from various websites & services they've been issued accounts for, or i can just click on the "reset my password" link on any service i know they use, i have access to their mail so i can quickly and easily grab the new password issued.
I've got a 2 year old edition of nod 32. I don't plan on buying any more anti virus b.s. If you don't open dodgy attatchments, run unknown programs you are fine.
I use ESET Smart Security 4 and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. They've been working well for me for a couple of years now.
