    ^flac is good for archival purposes, but you can't actually hear a difference between flac and a proper mp3 or ogg rip. don't tell me you can.

    meh, its just better quality overall for me, im pretty sensitive to sounds and im sorry but i cant tolerate anything under mp3 192kbps, just sounds bad...

    Jean Michel Jarre - Second Rendez-Vous

    I rip to FLAC out of habit, storage is cheap and it eats very very little CPU to play.
    I did a quick comparison using the song above out of interest:

    160 vs FLAC lvl 5 = hugely noticable - no dynamics, badly aliased
    256 vs FLAC lvl 5 = slightly noticable - some lack of lower power and upper brightness.
    320 vs FLAC lvl 5 = I can't hear a difference.

    Equipment in sig, playing through M-Audio ASIO over SPDIF.
