Still listening to Deadmau5, but I've gone back to "Vexoligy" and "For Lack of a Better Name."

Böhse Onkelz - Bin ich nur glücklich wenn es schmerzt

NOONE can do depressing-yet-cool as well as German punk bands.
    Except MAYBE Leonard Cohen

just started listening to Mastodon. I don't much care for the vocals, but they are impressive instrumentally(especially the drums, imo). I'm sure if I listen to them enough I'll like the vocals just as much as the rest of the band.

    What Album, Chimny?
Mastodon is (IMHO) The single best band since Pantera.
The vocals vary greatly between Leviathan (pretty harsh), Blood Mountain (less Harsh) and Crack the Skye (almost Pink Floyd-like at times)

Crack the skye is probably the most accessible album, thanks to its melodies.
But Leviathan makes me have an eargasm every time it gets to Megalodon.

I prefer heavier stuff though. I think a big part of why I never cared for them much was because I mostly listened to just the song Blood and Thunder from guitar hero, where I only listen to the guitar. Listening to the entire band as a whole is a completely different experience.

Besides that, I am trying to expand my musical tastes in general to include more forms of metal. I'm getting tired of waiting for the bands I like to release new albums, so I figure I will just like more bands(and spend more money).

I'm looking for some recommendations. I like rock along the lines of Trivium and Atreyu, and am looking for more bands that are in the same style as them. Anyone have any bands they can think of?

    Thrash/Screamo stuff?
    That's a HUGE Genre.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest some Metalcore stuffs:
Bullet for my Valentine - very poppy teeny stuff, but not bad. First album is the good one.
AFI - more punk orientated, but still very emoish
Still Remains - Don't exist anymore, but I found some of their stuff uttterly enjoyable
All that Remains - More aggressive than Still remains, and they still exist
    Killswitch Engage
    Shadows Fall
    Bleeding Through
    Unearth

@Chimny - then get Leviathan. It's still VERY prog stuff (how many bands do you know that go from Bluegrass licks to Death/Thrash in 2 seconds flat?), but it's heavier.
Oh, and Blood and Thunder is an EPIC song.

I have most of those bands minus Bleeding Through and Unearth. When I am working out I like to listen to this stuff as it's loud and get's me pumped.

Thank you for the suggestions :)

you could try Lazarus AD, Warbringer, and Evile. They are more classic thrash than the new stuff(even though they are newer bands)

edit: also check out Anterior and Sylosis(one of my favorites).

    Parkway Drive
    As I Lay Dying
    The Devil Wears Prada
    Architects
In Flames (bit more death metal than anything, but considerable melody)
    Finch
Rise To Remain (quite a new band but their EP is epic)
    Underoath
    Bring Me The Horizon

I also suggest The Dillinger Escape Plan's most recent album; 'Option Paralysis', it's far more accessible than their older stuff and it varies wonderfully throughout. It needs to be listened to all the way through though, no skipping tracks!

For less hardcore rock which most metal heads I know have liked: Clutch and Alter Bridge.
