Been listening to some liquid dnb recently when I want to drown out random brain noise , which then got a suggestion of dj mag's 'making of.." series on yt, which has sent me down a bit of nostalgia path, particularly a bit of a jungle, dnb, garage, all thanks to

Young lady playing violin in the town square, because our store has been evacuated. Some Muppet found some unexploded ordnance and decided the best course of action was to take it in to the local police station a few doors down from us.

Can’t really link to a video because it was a paid stream/VOD, but I watched Devin Townsend’s rock opera “The Moth” last night.

Bloody hell the guy can put on a show, that’s for sure…

Unlike previous livestream attempts, this was incredibly well produced. Sound levels, camera work, all spot on.

The only one snag was that I had a job to understand the soprano he was singing alongside. I think it was more of a stylistic thing rather than microphone gain; I could hear her just fine, I just couldn’t understand what she was singing. Either her style of singing just didn’t suit an opera, or she wasn’t used to that kind of performance. Watch any opera singer, of any pitch, and look at how they form the words with their mouth shape: their jaw is flapping all over the place and half the time their mouth is so wide open it looks like they’re trying to inhale a melon. Devin does that too, even though he doesn’t have a “classical” background. This soprano didn’t do that, her moth barely opened while singing. That might be fine for what she normally does, but it sure as hell couldn’t keep up with Devin Townsend and a full orchestral score.

Or maybe it was just the mix on the livestream and I’m talking out of my arse. Either way I think I’d like to watch it again but with lyrics in front of me.

Damn good though. It’s good to see Devin Townsend finally getting to do this show, he’s been working towards it for a decade or more.

A new Witchcraft is about to drop. Where are the vids, Youtube?
Youtube algorithm: That's not your language demographic.
What about that time you tried to ram so much Brazilian hip-hop down my throat that I installed Adblock?

New Messa and Kadavar on the horizon too. :D

I'm currently listening to a streamer called AriAtHome, he makes music on the spot with random people, it just takes me back to my teenage years when I used to mess around with OctaMED.
