For film and tv watching it would plasma over LCD. Similar to Bindi it would be Fujitsu, (mega expensive), Pannasonic then Pioneer for plasma. That might change when Pioneer show their new plasma tech. For LCD it would Sony then Samsung, but it depend on the set tbh.
Fujitsu, Pana and Pioneer: plasma is their main business and you can tell the difference in quality. I had some time to play on one of these when it was in the office, and for the price, it's one of the best TVs I've ever used. The £3k Fuji was obviously better, but it's also twice the price and doesn't come with anything other than a panel. Sony use Samsung panels!
Its a Sony Samsung joint venture on the panels but its not that simple as each use different coatings as well as driver logic and chipsets. So same panels different outcome.
Thanks for the replies. Im very surprised to see so many backing Sony, i looked at a Sony Bravia 32" LCD, which was near 700quid and the picture quality was poor, compared to the LG and Samsung that were on the same Scart link, the LG had the best picture of the 3, while the Samsung looked the best overall. I would have to say, i think i would still go with my original thoughts of the Panasonic, but im still open to thoughts. Thanks again Sam
We preferred the Sony UI and the Sony remote over the Samsung. The freeview UI was a lot more responsive too, whereas the Samsung was ok but sometimes missed button presses when on freeview (which is one of my pet hates). As I said before, picture quality was pretty much on a par between all of them.
lol if your buying an LCD or Plasma please keep away from scart! Also bear in mind that the screens are setup at 'OMG LOOK AT ME!!!' settings by default so they stand out against all the other TV's in a brightly lit shop. The brightness, contrast and colour settings will all be set to max. Take some time to play around with the settings and see what kind of picture you can get.
Not necessarily. There are other things to be taken into account - ambient light is one of them, because plasmas tend to have such uber-glossy screens, they don't work so well in bright rooms. Also, LCD technology is catching up, and they don't suffer from the latency problems that they used to. Plasma is the only option for 42" and above, but at the smaller screen sizes, its pretty much down to the situation the screen in which the screen is going to be used. Samkiller, if you can stretch to the extra bit of cash, consider the TX32-LXD70 or even the LXD700 rather than the LMD70 - it has a better picture, and the LXD700 has much better speakers. Or, alternatively, I could do you a 103" Panny plasma for a little over £70k
I purchased a 46" 1080p Samsung LE46F71BX back in Feb, and a 32" Samsung for the bedroom the year before and I think both TV's are great. I would point out that back in Feb 2007 the 46" sets from various manufactures all had some faults. Some had very bad pictures (Toshiba and Sharp) with banding and backlight issues. I was looking at the Sony, however it has issues with 1080p signals over Component I think (would not been good for my XBox). The Samsung has issues with 1080p over HDMI when being supplied via a PC graphics card (HDMI). The newer sets should be much better, but I would check out the following forum which is very good. http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=155
Heh, speaking of the 103" i did find it for £48,000. I will look into the TX32-LXD70, quick search on google products should give me enough results Cheers again Sam
True, but since Sony are a vile, evil company those chipsets and coatings are evil as well. However, Bravia's are nice TV's but I'd only ever buy LCD if I was going cheap and small, which Samsung do well at. Anything large is definitely plasma territory. Ambient light, blah, you've got proper lit pixels and a great viewing angle and black-blacks. Pull the curtains or wait til dark or something. There's no beating a good plasma if you've looked at enough TVs.
i bought, this was about 2 years ago mind you a Epson Powerlite S3 projector for my TV :d so it's current size is 84.5"
I voted other. Got my folks to buy a SHARP 42" TrueHD 1080p set - the LC42XD1E. First one was faulty - had vertical bands about 3" wide at left/right of screen with different colour shade colour! Second one perfect. Fed by a Virgin V+ box at 1080i regular TV is good, and BBC HD stunning (shame about the absence of other HD programming). Makes my 32" Sony CRT from 2000 look like a portable PC screen area wise. Was £1100 at Xmas, now down to mid £800s+.
lol there was a post on AVforums from a guy who works for a company that installs the 103" behemoth. They have to do a structrual survey of your house to make sure it can take the weight of the screen and stand and make sure there is sufficient access for the screen to get into your house. They also have to survey the outside ground conditions for the crane thats needed to lift the thing into your house and see if the feasibility of closing your street for the crane if needed. QFT! My plasma is opposite a SE facing window and the glare is only a problem occasionally. Plasma is also a shining example of why the whole rush for 1080p res is marketing BS. More pixels do not make a better picture.
Yep, at least that's what the Samsung guy told us... Samsung also teamed up with Microsoft's 360 guys to create the gaming mode on their TVs, although of course it works just as well on the PS3 and to an extent the Wii. Personally I prefer the Panasonic TVs though. They're not as beautiful or bright as the Samsungs but the colours seem a lot more realistic and less artificial. We've got the model previous to the one bindi mentioned and it's a fantastic set- having just added BT Vision over HDMI and using a component for the Wii, you really start to get the most out of it. <A88>
I got a mighty Daewoo 32". Its the new model with an amazing set of speakers and well it was only £400 in box and we can get 50" for under £1000 with proper stand, I think its a samsung not sure since my uncle works in shop, so if your in Northern Ireland come to Markethill and you can get TV's for cheaper than anywhere on th internet they destroy the like of Amazon and well big places like Currys and only good makes
Sony, Samsung & Toshiba LCDs, Panasonic Plasmas. Depending on use, price, features different models from these manufacturers would become the preferred option. I am currently going to for a Toshiba 42" 1080p TFT in the next 2 weeks.
