I've just moved into a new flat, and I'm looking to get a broadband provider. Question I'm here to ask is which one - I was initially thinking o2, but it says I cant' get 02 broadband when I put my number in (although the line was only setup 24 hours ago) - other broadband speed checkers say I should be able to get it at a speed of 6.5mbps. What provider would you recommend? I'm looking for unlimited usage, for a decent price - preferable with a free wireless router Any ideas?
well, I'm with 02 and apart from the fact that it kept disconnecting overnight once I manually put in the DNS servers it worked with no problems and connects at a decent speed.
Are you sure the O2 thing isn't saying you can't get their own service (LLU)? You should still be able to get it, just it's more expensive.
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ Put your postcode in and find your nearest exchange. o2 is pretty much the same as Be. Both are very good IMHO.
Nope, can't look at anything - I'm putting this down to being a new phone line at the mo -my parents live up the road, and they get offered the £17.50 8mb package which is what I was going for According to all exchange websites, I live right on top of it - same postcode.
Might live right on top of it as the crow flies, but as the cable lies.. Could be another story I'm with BT, because they were the cheapest for me. However, shoddy service, crap hardware and so on, make it hard for me to recommend them to you. I have a friend who is with Be, and he is more than happy with their service, though.
£17.50 is the non LLU rate for people with o2 phones, it would be £7.50 if you were in a O2 area for the same package. If you really want o2 try calling them their system might be updtaed more rapidly than the online part. if you have sky tv you could try their broadband package
The local exchange most likely isn't LLU enabled then, which would put you on home access( BT Wholesale), the reason your number isn't coming up just now is that it takes at least 48 hours from when the line is activated to be able to perform the test. Try again tomorrow and see what it says. I'm just switching to o2 broadband customer services from their mobile customer service the now currently in training so will keep you dudes up to date if i hear of anything (like i heard there are new packages being made available soon). However am also a customer. and as Ryu_ookami the only issue I've encountered was with DNS. a quick fiddle with some settings for open dns and that was it sorted. the swing for me (aside from the ludicrously cheap staff package) was the 24/7 free uk support.
Highly recommend o2 or Be, I have been a friend of my has o2. Both great services. As you can 'only get' 6.5Mb I would suggest you go with o2, and get one of their phones too, £7.50 a month for 8Mb is a bargin!
