I found Bit-tech in 2002 whilst I was at university. I had recently built myself an Athlon XP 2400+ rig having suffered an eMachines Celeron box for too long, and my choice of case was a Coolermaster ATC-210, which I modded a bit.

Nothing exciting, but in my quest for modding information I stumbled across the site and despite not posting very much, I've been here on an off ever since. I re-registered here again about a year after Dennis nuked the CPC forums, when the time had come to think about upgrading my Core 2 rig, although I haven't done any meaningful modding for the best part of ten years.

That's my dull story, how did you arrive here? What keeps you coming back?

The site and forums have changed a vast amount over the years of course, but the core values of friendly, usually helpful banter have remained.

    You.....I came for you, Nick....

Really though, I was having some tech troubles back in 2011. I googled the problems and found the solution in these forums. After some mooching around and realising what a good bunch of people were here, I decided to join up.

I joined way back in 2004 when I was working in the RMA department of a small startup company that supplied computer parts. Was (and still is) a valuable resource of technical assistance.

Looked for a decent site for hardware reviews for a computer upgrade.

While the reviews have slowed down some what I still enjoy checking the Demote thread and taking the piss out of Evo occasionally. ( Like looking at what other people have spent their hard earned on too )

Custom PC forum shutting down brought me here.

Isn't there already a thread for this? I'm sure I've done this before.

I came at a time when putting a window in your case was cutting edge, and you had to have access to a CNC machine and use car heatercores to even contemplate watercooling, and bit-tech was what appeared to be the only UK based modding site at the time (and frankly, only one of a few globally anyway), and there was an article on a YY-Cube which I had recently purchased.

    Good times.

I can't remember, I thought it would have been either troubleshooting or trying to work out what to buy, but I've just done a search to see if I can find my original post. Not sure if I've got it or not but the earliest one the system finds is actually a modding question, which is quite unlike me cos I'm only a soft-modder, not a hard-modder. But I was looking for input about the idea of expanding the flash mem of an mp3 player.

Quite typical of a new forum user I never even bothered to thank the people that replied, and it looks like they've all buggered off. I've just given them some belated rep anyway, which is worth more to them now (in cold, hard, rep terms) than it would have been at the time...

Part of the reason I stuck around is out of guilt of dipping into forums to exploit their knowledge to solve a problem, never to return. I wanted to try and change that and develop a bit more of a proper presence. Not sure I've actually achieved that cos there's very little advice I can offer to peeps, but I can tell you there's no other forums anywhere where I've got a user profile with a post count in three figures or more. Must have been some good bewbs in the Demotes thread that day...

If you want to know why I'm here, blame votick, thats the entire story, nothing cool or exciting.

However in my mind I want to think it was an epic quest full of dragons, orks, ogres and trolls, and this was the far away land of gold, riches and demotivational posts I was searching for

    Epic build logs.
To be honest it was only until I signed up I found there was a whole forum outside the Modding section!

Someone posted a link on another forum to the black mesa case on this site when it was being built. Then I found a lot of other awesome mods here and ended up sticking around.

I was looking up information about computer builds and I found Orac³. That was enough to keep me around.

Came from "another place" which had just changed the forum hosting software to what can only be described as an overblown/slow, mess. You needed an OC pc to use the site lol. Oh and no tapa/mobile support......
