At the time, most other forums seemed to be inhabited by either bitter old men moaning about how easy it was to get online now, or hooting morons.

    BT seemed a better place.

Another CPC refugee here. I didn't actually sign up for ages though, just lurked occasionally.

Bought an issue of CPC and saw the ad for Bit tech along with the modding section. It's all been downhill from there. :D

The fact that Tomshardware forums are ridden with Americans and brats....and American Brats.

This is a much friendlier and more mature community.

I think originally to troubleshoot my first ever build, but I stayed for Zapwizard, Gnome, the community etc....

I came for advice on a new build got the advice I needed and then stayed for the cheesecake and games.

Initially I wanted to buy a custom built laptop but the pricing compared to a complete desktop was about the same and after spending a month pricing stuff up I chose my build and went and ordered.

Since then I have stuck around for over 4k posts, the gaming community. I have made some firm friends some enemies and taken a lot of dog tags.

I came to follow piloux's Black Mesa build and ended up staying. I know I don't say much, but lurking is fun :)

Custom PC magazine brought me here. I started reading from the second issue.

I found Bittech in 2008/9 and browsed for a while until I eventually joined 2010. Since then I've logged on everyday.

    It's my addiction :D

I first found this place in 2008 IIRC while looking for hardware reviews (or was it the Buyers Guide?). Noticed all the reviews I came across were consistently very well written with attention to detail, so I began to visit the front page more often.
Eventually I visited the forums too, saw some brilliant mods, laughed my ass off at the original demote thread etc., found enlightenment in the cult of Our Illustrious Lord And Saviour and the joys of cheesecake, laughed my ass off even more, and concluded that Bit-tech was about the nicest forum with the nicest people in all of the interwebs.
So I decided to join, and though I kept lurking mostly the first few years, I gradually began posting more often. Nowadays I rarely check the front page anymore, but log in here on the forums multiple times a day.

Though this place feels different than back then (those rose-tinted glasses are in the way probably), it's still the best forum IMO. Different people come and go, but it seems Bit-tech always sustains this funny, insightful and helpful user base (well… mostly… ;)) united by their passion for hardware and modding (and lots of other expensive hobbies).

2009. Saw how hilarious the reviews were and how good they were. Then looked at everything else.

Got enamoured posted like a madman. Now still here.

Project logs... Some awesome builders lurking here, specially Attila, Slipperyskip and Gtek to name few of them...

Also the General section has my focus nowadays too!

And Evo's date/love story and Big Mike forced me to stay after all!

I visited in a browsing sense long before I became a member, I used to live on the forums of a family run computer store in wakefield - http://www.over-clock.co.uk

Not only was it my modding / general site, it also started my life in online clan gaming (pretty sure it was the original Call of Duty when we started!). For several reasons things slowly died down over there and bit-tech for me was my next logical home. I would say my stay here (more so recently for sure) its based on the community of regular faces, quality modding and a good marketplace. I rarely come for articles or reviews anymore
