My wife just got an old iBook (model A1005 copyright 2002) with OSX on it.

I just found out how to open the "applications" folder and found the terminal, which is cool, but now I want to learn what else to do with this thing.

My instinct is to dual boot linux, just for fun, but what I'm really looking for is the simple stuff that makes macs cool.

As of now, I can type faster than the browser can put it in this text box, so I'm hoping she can get a newer one from work soon. Anyway, what features make OSX cool? What can I do to sell myself on this OS?

I'm thinking simple key commands to make using the computer easy, scripting, and stuff like that. What makes OSX cool?

mess around with the PPC linux live cds... always a laugh when a mates like but linux is better than macos and waffles on for an hour in which time you've burned the live cd and booted from it and turned it on them for them to go.... waahh?

could actually use it as a system... you can get office for macos, and loads of fun stuff too... obviously safari.... if it's got an airport card in... go war driving.... may as well...

odds are it'll need more ram. should be fine apart from that though.

    I actually quite like OSX.

    Is that machine 800mhz?

You could use it as a nice little bedroom or lounge computer. I figure the iBook would be super quiet and suited to that sort of environment. You could leave it downloading over night and probably not notice the thing.

I guess I wasn't making myself clear, I want to know the cool features of OSX, like the crazy key combos that make it show all the windows at once or something....

I must admit, now that I've been using linux, I figured I'd appreciate OSX more.... but I was wrong. I really don't like the OS, but it's a matter of opinion, not performance based. I'd still take Ubuntu Linux over OSX or Windows. (still don't know which I prefer, OSX or Win XP)

The coolest feature (although completely and utterly useless) is to hold down the Shift key while you minimise or maximise a window

Thats F9 F10 and F11. F9 shows all open windows, F10 shows the all the current programs windows, and F11 moves all windows so you can see the desktop.

Best terminal fun is had with "say i like big buts" :D Enjoy
