Rev2 is on the way and is a more compact PCB, so I'm not too concerned about a case for this original revision .

But yeah, that is definitely a good shout. TBH the whole thing could do with a little bit more optimisation in the layout; all the off-board connectors could be condensed into one single wiring harness. I only laid them out as separate connectors as they're all going to different points on the GBS-8200. I also might want to shield the RGBS cables from interference...

Its what I do for a job, so its easy for me to see :) I'd say just move those connectors either side of the SCART, tuck the chip in behind. Then you can get a prototyping box and only have to cut a slot in one side, simples :)

Ah yes, I knew one of our regulars was a professional EE, I just couldn't remember who :thumb:.

Yeah, it could definitely be tighter, but TBH I don't want to gild the lily with this. Part of the reason I packed in the hobby electronics stuff years ago was that I never finished anything - there's always something else that could be better, there's always something I've done wrong, there's always another way I could optimise something... I'm trying to come to terms with is the fact that 'done' doesn't mean 'the best it can be'. Hopefully rev2 will be the last hardware revision I need (assuming I didn't c**k that up as well  ). At least one person here has expressed interest in this board, so I'll probably only keep 1 or 2 of the boards for myself and just give away the remaining spares.

There are other projects I'm going to start looking into, but the main thing I need to start doing is surface-mount. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy hobbyist electronics, but I can't rely on through-hole forever. If I'm going to do a lot of surface-mount then I'll probably build my own reflow oven but I still need to be able to do SMD by hand. I am very tempted to sign up to the paid-for courses on Contextual Electronics for a couple of months; I enjoy Chris' teaching style, but my main concern is that new content for Contextual Electronics is effectively dead at this point. There's still a lot of good stuff in there, so I might just pay for a month and see how I get on.

Dad offered to bring me some pallet wood to help with the mud kitchen construction...

he’s brought so much wood I’ll be able to cancel my wickes order in the morning. not only that, he bought me a stack of 10 identical boards that will look great as a worktop with very little finishing required! Excited to get cracking!!

Also found a supplier for electric standing desk frames, affordable, take Klarna if I wanted to split the payments up to fund over time. Having noticed, I then researched options for worktops and found a company selling 1.5M x 62cm solid walnut worktops almost exactly what I was after in the exact size I needed..... still £165 but extremely well priced considering I could buy a laminate composite top slightly the wrong size for £109.99!

More than just a EE, I'm a Development Engineer, I do EE, mech eng, power, thermal, programing, Systems engineering (the aerospace kind), AI, LOTS! Never a bored moment! This week for instance I've done specification writing, solar power concept, CAD for hardware layout and mount deisgns, power test plans and testing instrament evulation! I love it, but it plays hell with the imposter syndrome as I never actually specialise in anything so I always think I have no skills -_-

My tip for you would be to approach is like a design project, do a requirements and then from that a specification and then a detailed design description. That stops feature creep and gives you a fixed goal to aim for. Then test plans can be derived so your ourput will be of a far higher, and more repeatable standard :) Doesn't need to be crazy detail, just a A4 pagew of bullet points for each section would be enough for what you're doing :) Happy to give pointers if you need any :)

SC Senator Lindsey Graham has been outed as a power bottom going by "LadyG."

You do you, boo. I think my dresses won't fit though.

Will do! going to hold off for a few months until my pocket replenishes, probably wouldn’t have got the echo studio if I’d found this prior... oh well

£114 for 1.5M x 62cm x 40mm just need to figure out roughly how much it’ll weigh to determine what wiggle room I have with putting gear on the desk!

what’s cool is they sell £5 samples of the walnut and oak so would be able to look at them beforehand! :)

Yeah, that's the bed. I figured it was a good place to not scratch it lol. I bought these bars last year for something else on sale. Fate? I like to think so.

The whole house now stinks of lovely new tyres lol

Had a walk in the woods, a bit of rain has made it look drastically different. Great head cleanser.

    Using 'From 40 kg (2M x 620 x 40mm) to 61 kg (3M x 620 x 40mm)' the 1.5m x 620mm x 40mm one should be 30kg :)

I recall once I was attempting for about the tenth time to give up smoking. It was the first day off the patches. I'd only been back in the UK for a couple of months. Any way, mum pissed me off and I flew into a rage. I decided to just go out. I walked aimlessly down the street and found a turn off into a field for a public footway. Mid way I found this field just full of bluebells. It was so beautiful I didn't even bother to continue, I just plopped down and sat there for hours.

Makes sense :thumb: should be sufficient!!

Echo Studio turned up and it’s greaaaaat! If you like bass then prepare for the rumble... if I’m honest it may be a little heavy for some, it’s not muddy just a little overpowering at times. I like it though (a lot) and Alexa is super responsive out of the box without learning any voices.

I’ve also made significant progress on the mud kitchen wood working project, so far it’s coming together well!!

I did have some trouble with the saw though... think it must be faulty because I couldn’t for the life of me get a consistent straight line :worried: *cough*

Ah, that sounds awesome! I can definitely sympathise with the 'impostor syndrome' thing though.

Thanks, definitely a better way to go about things :thumb:.

There's nothing quite like just losing hours in the fields or trees.

Put my new system together, all second hand except the case and mobo, it posted first time (yay!).

This almost went in ruining. Because It's the first full ATX system I've put together since 2002. I had forgotten how much I hate the big form factor, everything is stressful, the cables are all too short, the cable ports come too close to the board, there are multiples of the same connector, too many connectors go unpopulated and it all sets me off. This is why I built ITX systems where there's about 8 connections and they all do something. Also, why do GPUs always have the PCI power facing directly away from the motherboard? There's a giant cable ruining all my lovely careful routing.

Then (THEN!) having put it all together I managed to drop case screws through the roof of the case into the live, operating motherboard. Hearing them rattle through and waiting for the sparks is now officially the most stressful thing to happen this year, balls to disease control, that was worse.

    Tomorrow comes software...
