A few years after we said goodbye to the family cat, we're going to be hearing the patter of tiny paws once again: we're adopting a pair of cats from the local rescue. There's no easy way to put a cat-flap in this house (front door is exposed to brutal winds and rain, back door is glass, don't fancy cutting a gert hole in the conservatory wall) so we've picked a pair of cats that have to stay indoors... 'cos they're both profoundly deaf.

    Pictures once they're settled in!

We bought a new pane of glass (double glazed) for the conservatory door with a hole for a catflap pre-cut, cost about £180 fitted around 5 or 6 years ago, kept the original glass in the shed. Any competent glazer cab sort it easily.

Just decide which cat flap you want to use as different makes have different hole size requirements.

I did look into that, but deaf indoor cats need love too!

My ex had a bit of double glazing made for a conservatory door with a circle the size of the cat flap that wasn’t ridiculously expensive. Think it was under £300 all in, which included taking out the old and fitting the new glass.

Also the local wildlife population will thank you for not releasing a pair of deadly predators :thumb:

I absolutely adore our (not so) little furry idiot, no chance in hell I'd risk ever letting him out. Scooping & sifting litter 3-4 times a week is a small price to pay when the alternative is to risk poisoning, injury, death...

I mean... would you risk letting this adorable little idiot come to harm?!

Yeah ours would always be back by bedtime and had a litter box indoors.
    In the bathroom.
I mean that's where we all went.
I mean the bathroom, not the litter box.

She only stayed out all night one night when we lived in NZ and came back all sheepish with a banged up tail.

No idea if she fell out a tree or had an argument with a possum but none of us wanted that repeated.

She never really wanted more than an hour or so out a day to be fair, had it too cushy indoors.

Years a go our neighbours deaf cat took us on as surrogate owners. Adorable little white fluffball.

Wish they'd let her stay with us as she was around most of the time then got run over shortly after they moved away with her.

Aww. Yeah, they recommend that deaf cats are kept indoors exclusively (unless you've a secure garden they can't get out of), 'cos they can't hear traffic or other animals and it doesn't normally end well for 'em.

Yeah I'm not sure where they moved to, must have been busier. Shhe was mainly in the back gardens or our house, the only time I saw her out front was when she saw our car and would jump on the bonnet and try and get in the window.

Neighbours looked a bit peeved but cats choose who they choose.

I think she liked being out of their house, they had a dog and two hearing cats so I imagine being deaf you'd like a less busy place where you're not surprised every two minutes.

Anyway, when do we get new fluffball pics?

We're picking them up on Wednesday - and I've got a bunch of stuff to do before then, including moving various dangling cables and protecting the ones I can't shift!

Might have also gone overboard on the entertainment: a cat tower bigger than I am (not looking forward to building *that*), and one of those giant hamster wheel things...

Lol and you know they'll ignore all that and just play with the boxes they came in.

We have one of these for our ragdoll, has an excellent, very tough, scratching post and, each part can be replaced. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chartreux-...623&s=pet-supplies&search-type=ss&sr=1-5&th=1

Mavolio destroyed an ordinary scratching post in just a few weeks, when he was only a few months old but, has had this for 2 years and, still in good condition.

2 preliminary interviews booked in for next week, one with a software company in Birmingham for treasury manager and the other senior treasury analyst for a technology and white goods retailer in london. I've got direct trains to London from my local station, so for the experience and pay cheque I can cope with a long commute a couple of times a week. Give me time to do my act qualifications.
