There are some breaks in today's clouds it seems...

I nominated a colleague and friend of mine for a referral bonus when started this job - she gave me a heads-up that they'd be recruiting and let me know when the ads were live, which I then spotted on FacebookForWork LinkedIn. She offered to split the bonus 50/50 when it came through, and of course I'm not going to say no . It finally got paid in this month's pay and my half is now resting in my account.

Not a huge amount of money, but it's enough for a new GPU*

*Yes, yes, I know... crappy GPU market, terrible value, impending next-gen announcements, etc, etc... But the problem is that if you wait for a "good" time to upgrade then you'll never upgrade - there's always something else around the corner, there's always some new product announcement, there's always some newer and faster model...

Completion date set for when we wanted, fingers crossed all is going smoothly.

Rental will start on the Friday aweek before with a trip up with a few things and then mad final boxing before the main move on the following Tuesday.

The OH is then generously heading back to oversee some cleaners before the Friday. Gives her a chance to catch up with a mate anyway so, really, I'm doing her a favour

I went to the skip today with a load of rubble, cardboard and some other nonsense. When I arrived the guy on the door was busy smoking a (three letter slang term for a cigarette the swear filter doesn't like) so he let me dump the rubble for free, probably saved a good bit of cash there. I went on and dropped the rest, and then the land rover decided not to start back up. It was cranking nicely but not firing at all.

This was the first proper breakdown I've had (ran out of fuel three times but that doesn't count), but after a bit of checking and testing I found a corroded terminal on the ignition coil was the culprit. I went from thinking "why won't this start" to "how the hell did it get me here in the first place?!?", it was absolutely black. I've had a set of tools under the passenger seat for a while, with a file and some pliers I managed to clean it up and it fired right up after that.

    Smug mode engaged.

    @ElThomsono

    Me man
    Me go to skip
    Me fix a thing

I'd class that as an outstanding day of feeling good about yourself

Big auction pick up, spent a lot but got a lot for my money.

One item amongst many was a Sony DSC-HX90V, very well kept piece of kit which came boxed with all the cables and manual. Seems to go for a tidy £280-£350 which would pay for all 14 lots and 100 or so new listings I've got. Result!

I also bought an accordion.... Yep.... you read that right, an accordion. A good £200+ in that one and seems to have been treated well :) Maybe I'll go busking.

    Good work there.
    I also fixed a thing.

Large Sony mains powered party speaker died abruptly after a couple of uses following time in the attic.

Ifixit had a repair scheme, so I removed 25 screws to get into it.
I thought the non replaceable surge fuse in the power board had gone, a common fault.
    Continuity tester says otherwise...
However, solder points sound the PCB pins from the mains socket had fractured, damn that ROHS solder!

A good dose of lead solder to beef up the connections and it's good to go.
Happy daughter can do beefy music while leading dancing classes tomorrow.

    I thank you :D

Nicely done, one of the good things about Sony electronics is they seem to be designed with opening them up in mind. Absurd to think that is a thing, but there you go.

I think today I managed to do something no one ever has.

Remember ages ago when I said I got my first progressive weapon in PUBG? Well, around two weeks ago I got another one. I couldn't believe it. Streamers have spent up to £2k to get them. So that is how unlikely it is to get one. I upgraded it to level 2 and was beyond stoked.

Any way today I decided to treat myself to my monthly £18 I spend on coins for it. Whenever you see gold when the crate clunks and opens you know you are in for something awesome.

WTF? ANOTHER progressive weapon. The one I got a few weeks ago !!!

"But there are still two other gold ones!"

Yup. I actually got two progressive weapons in one go. Which I have never seen before. They were both what I had, but, scrap for the stuff even money can't buy.

Which are the schematics you need to level it up.

An early morning visit to the local farmer's market. Met a lot of friendly people and prices are insanely good compared to at home.

In the afternoon a 17.68km hike (with a total ascent of 440m) with my wife in the lonely hills they call mountains in the northeast of France.

Rabbit roast, filled with minced meat, in the oven with a lot of root veg.

Can I always have days like this, please?

Technically finished the gardening for the year. I could do some additional trimming etc, but it's all optional...until next year's growth begins.

Meant to do it this morning, but got distracted by Mechwarrior 5. Finally weaned myself off it and managed to fit everything I wanted to do before the sun set.

    Silent disco.

Not taking part, of course, just watching them all dancing to whatever channel they're on and singing out of key. It's far more entertaining than I expected. It's ****ing hilarious.

The missus is among them, natch.

I'm just guarding drinks and handbags, and surfing on my phone in relative peace. No complaints.

Removals guy came to have a quick look before the bulk move tomorrow, brought a load of boxes and tape that were gratefully received.

In the rental, TV and PS5 setup, bed made, full stomach.

    Went well in the end.

    Absolutely battered.

Just had Jehova’s Witness’s at the door. The dog fulfilled his duty perfectly, by having a good bark at them.

We're back in the Atlantic, after leaving the Med this morning, and you can really tell. The ship is riding up and down these 20-30 ft swells like it's a rollercoaster. I've spent the last hour leaning over the balcony, watching these swells coming in and seeing the bow riding down one and crashing up the next one.

I'm soaked from the spray but happier than a pig in ****.
