Back in Paris, this time with my wife. Two more days of work in an office the company I'm with has here, then my wife and I have almost three weeks for ourselves.

We'll start this year's holiday season with two days without work in Paris (Wednesday and Thursday); Friday we'll head back home for the Christmas dinner with the family and some apartment cleaning and throwing stuff away. We just signed the contract on a rental house, so we need to get rid of unnecessary stuff that has been collected over 11 years in our current apartment.

On the 29th we'll head to Czechia for about a week in the snow, with lots of hiking, and great food and beer.

    I'm so ready.

    Awesome.

I'll be hunting snow myself, my OH's mum keeps sending photos and you can barely see the car already!

    Can't wait.

For me it's a simple change of mindset. Instead of focusing on the negatives in life and things which bring me hurt and I can do nothing about. I now focus on the positive aspects of life, things which are tangible which I can change. My lens I view life with has become love, hope and positivity.

I am grateful for this forum and this community.

Well today has been eventful. First day in the new job, I was delayed by Mrs crap getting ready as she hogged the bathroom, but not to worry I have a backup train into town and they're still on time aren't they Trainline? Yes, good. Get to station, delayed, they've all been delayed, oh now Trainline updates that they're delayed. Fantastic.

Ended up getting an Uber into town with a nice chap who worked at jlr, had a good chat about jags electrification, set me at ease a bit. Made it to my train to Leicester on time, arrived at the office in plenty of time.

Day was a bit hit and miss, usual first day malarkey of not having access to anything, so couldn't actually do any work. Had the luck of sitting in on a month end accounts review, and wasn't pleasantly clued up on what was being talked about which was nicely reassuring. Got to leave early because no point me sitting round doing nothing.

Tomorrow is a support staff get-together day, so will get to meet a lot of people irl which will be nice. Think I'm gonna enjoy it here.

There's one thing I forgot to mention: we also saw Justice (electro duo from Paris) live tonight. In Paris. Their home, their living room, basically.

It was better than I ever imagined, and I was expecting A LOT having seen them live twice before.

Been trying to get my car serviced before I have to go back to work Jan 2nd, so as not to burn any of my 2025 holidays.

Car is an MG4 EV, 2nd year service after 20k miles.

Main dealer A (the car's supplier) - No slots until next year, well over £200 o_O
Main dealer B (same distance from home) - 8:30am this Friday, around £130

Dealer B also mentioned software updates for the car without prompting!

Needless to say, you now know where I'll be on Friday morning.

Had to look up spogs ... oh gawd, they're the awful ones from the allsorts.

Thinking Gunny is just happy 'cos he's taken a kilo of something bad off the streets.

Same here. I am a big fan of aniseed (and I know a lot of people hate it!)

Edit: I did have to look up "spogs" though, have never heard of that particular terminology before :D Not even sure what I would call them - probably "the bobbly ones"

tbh I only ever knew them as the "pink and blue things" I was surprised they were called spogs as well. got as hankering for some aniseed balls now.

For those of us who work in engineering related fields, I'm sure you're all familiar with the gallows humour we have. My colleague cracked me up with a comment yesterday:

"All I want for Christmas is to read your obituary."

    Keep your chin up, chap!

I’m starting to feel human again!

My head still feels like it’s clamped in a vice, I’ve developed a wicked cough, and everything I eat still absolutely rips its way through me… but… baby steps…

    Ta!

In hindsight I think that was worse than any illness I’ve had in the last couple of years, so maybe it was flu and not COVID… Doesn't really matter either way, whatever it was it really put me flat on my arse…
