I put the 3090 in a rig with a fresh install and put it through a three hour gaming session at max settings - no crashes. Also just seen a crash with my 4060 on the rig I experienced the 3090 crashing on - currently reinstalling the OS on that rig too.

I'm a very happy chappie. Phew!

Had my yearly appraisal at work last Friday and I am not great with compliments so it kinda knocked me sideways a little to hear and read what my manager was putting in there, the phrase "has been a rock" was used...

And then at the end when it came to targets for career progression, a section that the employee doesn't see, but I did as my manager's shared (he is very big on being open with us on stuff like this), and he goes and ticks the box for management with a view to me taking over the technical derpartment at some point. Sure, there are only 2 of us in it but still...

Been in my own place for 3 years at least now, had some internal wall insulation so the main bedroom, spare bedroom and living room needed decorating.
The spare room was easy but I sat on the rest due the work, well I started 2 weeks ago and now I'm done, feel so relieved.
Never just a simple jobs, lots of extras to make the best I could, lessons learnt for next time.

Had some mold in the shower ceiling and the paint was flaking, It had been pissing me off. Then the rain shower pulled out of the wall because the holes were too wide but shallow.
Took the rain shower apart, cleaned the mold with vinegar, dried it off with a heat gun, scraped off the flaking paint, filled the old screw holes with wooden dowels, painted the ceiling, put the shower back in place, now looks so much better.

Also picked up a book yesterday, the first time in months and am actually enjoying it thus far. "Venomous Lumpsucker" by Ned Beauman.

Both these activities made me think just how much time I waste having my attention taken away by social media. So I've uninstalled Instagram, I've disabled "Discovery" on my phone's home, I've put `127.0.0.1 instagram.com` on all my hosts files. Lets see how long this lasts.

Sensible, I got back into reading a while back after I realised everything I was doing was being brutally fragmented by modern life, I now read physical books which sort of trick me into staying on target. Currently reading the 1,100 page Count of Monte Cristo, which a few years back would have been a laughable suggestion.

People need to read more books. And I'm not just saying this to further increase the chances of the signed first editions I own to rise in value in the future.

    Bargain hunting/hoarding pays off!

This morning, I awoke to a lack of internet at home...
    • Router? Fine
    • Wireless devices? Fine
    • Ancient 8-port ethernet switch? Ah, bugger.
Then my memory prodded me about a 24-port switch I'd grabbed from the rainforest's deals page in the summer of 2022, that was still boxed up on the shelf.
5 mins later, normal service was resumed!

I love it when you pick up 'bargains' that you never get around to using until that rare instance that arises and you know you've got something to sort it.

It's one of my favourite types of smugness.

I've got a Polestar 4 on order, kind of expensive but my choices were pretty much that or a Tesla model Y, which was significantly cheaper. Thing is, I didn't want to drive a Tesla. Now that Musk has really tipped his hand it strikes me as money well spent :hehe:

    Two things

1st: deposit (LL claims its a holding fee) has not been protected under either of my names at any point. That's few hundred quid profit right there
2nd: Brighton & Hove private sector housing team confirmed this address does not have a HMO license but needs one. Rent repayment order ahoy! Touch under 7k + costs back to me

    [edit]
Of course there's that possible tax evasion (LL is one of those people who "know how things are done" + not done right to rent checks
    [/edit]

If you have a Costco membership, you can claim a £2000 discount code for the P4.

Ah, thanks, but this is through a company car scheme. I'll be a bit sad to see the C-Class go but the tax benefit of going to a full EV can't be ignored.

I've been super strapped for cash and have had to live on a pretty tight budget for the past year.

I've been wanting to get a nice wool rug for my bedroom, but obviously can't afford the price tag. I've had a few in mind, but have been hoping/wishing for some super sale where any of them are 80% off or more.

Well, I just found my favorite of all of these choices brand new for 94% off on Facebook marketplace. I'm going to go get it tomorrow. It'll cost a bit in gas, van rental, and time, but it's still a total bargain.

Retro rampage this month, yesterday I got a Windows 98 machine that was passed onto me some time ago booted and working with an ever so slightly era inappropriate MX420 AGP card, drive hadn't been wiped so found all of the owners stuff from 2001 when it was last booted. They were working in a store that sold mobile phones and the owner was responsible for creating some of the advertising images.

Now I've just installed a 5.25 hot swap IDE bay so I can test some of the many, many old drives I have sitting before essentially refurbing the other old systems I have around. Also the 98 SE machine is ideal for me to use for my Mavica photos, not only does it give me quick access to floppy but I can also transfer what the 1.44mb floppy can hold straight onto a 100mb zip drive, again, got quite a few of those around. If nothing else this media is secure in the modern age :hehe:

Hope the Zip drive doesn't suffer from the infamous "Click of Death". :thumb:
