I remember Mermaid - they had an... interesting approach to advertising:

(Privat Computer, November 1997 - modesty bars entirely mine. If you particularly want to see hand-draw genitalia, have at it.)

Neither's mine, but it seems to be about building custom computers 'cos you can't build custom people.

    Quick machine translation confirms it:

"For now, you'll have to settle for assembling your own computer. And let's hope it stays that way. Because if you were to model your better half like you create a mermaid computer, you wouldn't be able to stand that person. After all, there are limits to what one can tolerate from predictability and pleasure-seeking. If, on the other hand, it is precisely the features that you miss in your current standard computer, you should perhaps still spend a few minutes filling in the wish list above. Then you have an idea of what it takes of you to put together a mermaid computer that meets exactly your personal needs. You can either do this via the Internet, where our electronic shop is open 24 hours a day at www.mermaid.dk. Or in all the country's UNIPRO stores, which have normal opening hours but unusually good personal advice. Call mermaid computer on tel. 44 20 92 00 if you want information on the nearest UNIPRO. Or if you have a suspicion that we also strip our customers to the skin. Our prices for a fully operational computer start at DKK 7,563. incl. VAT."

Ok that's pretty good. I guess that marketing career isn't missing me after all, I was wondering why it took so many words to make a floppy disk joke.

Since I'm not feeling like some of my critical to life bodily functions are missing...

That's basically the deposit case evidence (checked both surnames of mine so double woop woop) + settlement offer (which has been ignored so far), letter before action and N1 form that needs filling

Need to call Brighton and Hove PSH again and request written evidence of my old address being licensable but never having been for that rent repayment order

Back in 2017, I invested a substantial amount of money into a friend's company. There was a government scheme that allowed me to claim back tax on the investment, but due to mental health issues I was having at the time, I forgot to claim.

Mid 2023, I submitted the claim, not expecting to hear anything back from HMRC. After almost a year, they wrote back, requesting more details, so I filled that out (Mid 2024). Again, I wasn't expecting anything to happen, it was more of a "maybe it'll work" scenario. Just logged into my banking this morning, and noticed my main account was a lot higher than expected. Lo and behold, HMRC have paid!

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not suddenly rushing off into retirement or anything. But the amount is enough to cover my upcoming 5090 purchase and several unexpected bills I've had in the last few days. I'm not going to pretend for a second that my life sucks or anything, especially compared to some of the issues some unfortunate folk here are going through. But the last few months have been grinding me down for several reasons, and I needed a win. Hopefully this'll give me a bit of spring back in my step.

I went out kayaking in the sunshine this morning for the first time this year.
We try to paddle all year, but with unfavourable weather and river conditions for months, we haven't been out since October.
So good to be on the water in the sunshine, hopefully the first of many in 2025.
I feel weary being out of practice, but recharged nevertheless.
Good to see the back of January, here's to longer days and getting out more!

Just cashed in some stock I had from when I joined my employer. Good 2024 financial results and before the trade war spirals out of control, hopefully that's a vacation sorted for this year.

My mouse has been skipping and freezing up, it works fine in the office but not at home. It was becoming infuriating, I thought it was because the glass top on the desk was becoming scuffed so I spun it round to a new section, which wasn't an easy task as it's a big old sheet and everything is sat on top of it. No joy, and this section of desk has more scratches on it :wallbash:

Well I dunno why I didn't do it sooner but today I wiped the sensor with my t-shirt an now it works perfectly, I should have done that months ago :hehe:

I seem to recall that one of Microsoft’s selling points for the first IntelliMouse with “IntelliEye” optical sensor was that you could “use it on your pant leg”

That may be entirely apocryphal, it’s been a long time since those mice first hit the market - 25 years, to be specific…!

I'm 18 months into a "new" role at company I'm now nearly 17 years with, still have imposter syndrome because it's a job I wanted.

    Good luck!

Safe to say old LL is in trouble. That's three properties without HMO licenses yet all need to have one

Hey, a girl's gotta have goals right?

Sure, these things are never great to have to go through, but there is the potential for much giggling when you know that you have them over a barrel.
