My space saver sub in the car stopped working the other week, was annoyed as I got it cheap ages ago and don't want to start again on this car.
Partially stripped the boot to find all the wires, some voltmeter checking and found the poor connection on a solder joint, must have been this heat.
Just glad the sub is still going!

 

Awesome… but with caveats.

Put in an offer on a house yesterday morning, and it was accepted within an hour.

So now we’re back on the merry-go-round of mortgage applications, appointing solicitors, arranging surveyors… and waiting.

We’ve got an appointment with a mortgage broker tomorrow afternoon, so we can’t really do much more now until a mortgage application is in. We do have a decision in principle already from Halifax, but the broker’s retainer fee (which we’ve already paid) covers us until the end of the year - we might as well make use of it.

 

Hopefully, you get the keys before the Halifax disappears forever.

 

I was working at what used to be Lloyds TSB during the financial crash, so I was there when the HBOS buyout happened. Lloyds have been trying to scrap the Halifax brand ever since.

That's cheered up my crap morning. Mrs A is laid up in bed with unexpected illness and I have just had my sparky walk off in a temper as one of my customers tried to tell him how to do his job in a heavy handed and unwanted way.

After missing out on a few reasonably priced 1st Gen Threadripper bundles I have just purchased a TUF X299 and i9 7960X for £130 posted.

Per thread performance is more in line with Zen 2 (possibly higher, can't remember exactly, been ages since I played with a 7980XE) and it has enough PCI-E lanes to tickle my fancy with multi GPU or Server like tinkering. Additionally it will be fast enough to host a GPU girthy enough in the VRAM department to run the local AI models that wife uses for her writing planning & analysis. Slap a 3090 or 7900XTX in it an it will (just) fit the Qwen model she has been liking recently (and has been giving my laptop a real headache).

Not power efficient at all but then it adds to the reasons to look more deeply at solar and battery setup (or just the latter tbf - EV overnight tariff plus big enough battery/inverter = everything running on the "cheap" rate.... happy days ).

 

I popped out to do some shopping this morning, and on the way saw a mobile crane waiting outside the gates to a local crematorium.

My first thought was "Jesus! How big is the guy you're burning?!".

 

Last weekend, I passed the local cemetery while I was walking to the corner shop and bunch of pall bearers were walking the length of the cemetery with a coffin. On my way back from the shop they were walking in the opposite direction. I thought, "these guys have lost the plot".
