    Weekend off work

Weekend of FL Studio learning and production

I was pretty frustrated not knowing where to start today till about 6.30pm when i got a good chord progression going just by hammering at the keys, essentially the same way swedish house mafia done it....

Not House as i wanted its drifiting more towards a Trance tune but its ok its fun just to have a bit of fun maybe share with some friends

The knowledge that, today, I am definitely going to get my FX 8120. Even if I have to burn down the DPD Rushden warehouse to get it.

Ended the week with a Rocky Patel Cigar (not bad). A nice dinner with the family. Got a 3GS 32GB for $40 unlocked. And now I am rocking an iphone, a few years late, but for so cheap i don't mind.

I finally convinced my parents to upgrade their computers, and to finally drop some money on a NAS box, which should alleviate most of the issues they have been having with sharing files between their computers.

I learnt how to use automation like avicii and layering melody for bass and high key part

I just need to make a basic piano melody that i like and i can put all the techniques i learnt into a real track :)

I did do one track but the melody was so basic it did'nt have the uplifting quality i like in progressive house therefore by my ears sucked

Oh well plenty of time to do another :thumb:

FL Studio's automation is a thing of beauty IMO, so easy to hook up to basically any control in the program. Biggest issue with FL though is it takes extra effort to make it sound like it wasn't made in FL. May have to boot it up and play again, been many years since I dabbled...

It is pure brilliance so simple to use when you get to grips with the interface, and it really adds so much to simple melody or chords.

When i started i listened to some amazing fl made tracks and thought it was impossible but most of the things i was hearing was automation making simple patterns sound amazing.

It does take effort getting it to sound non FL because honestly you can hear some ****

unless you invest in some good quality soft synths and plugins it will sound half done. what gives me confidence is some of my favourite producers atm use FL Avicii being one of them i watched a 1 hour video of him making a eric turner remix and its some of the stock sounds from his plugins that make avicii sound how he does and really if you know the program inside out (i have'nt came close to that) as much as he does producing a track can take very little time if you have the idea to go behind it.

The thing im finding difficult is the melody i mean i can lay down a good melody but its just boring to me... nothing i feel i could groove to myself, My sister liked it but just does'nt have the edge yet.

As soon as i get that down im off and its all about refining and learning more on how to add to the melody its a real blast just learning it :thumb:

FL is great as a sketchpad - it allows you to get ideas down quickly and make them into a semi-finished product. However, unless you're using your own VST synths or the like I'd prolly finish it in something else. The mastering tools built in certainly leave something to be desired. However, I'm no professional, just a happy amateur :thumb:
