I'm sorry, but Lichfield and Nottingham? Pot, kettle?

Depends on the quality. The good stuff (not Twinings) can be awesome; the bad stuff (not Twinings either) is horrible.

If you want to get into teas, try a good second flush Darjeeling, a China Yunnan or if you can find it, Orange Pekoe. Try some entry level stuff from Imperial Teas in Lincoln. The choice can be a bit overwhelming, but it is all good and you cannot go wrong even with the cheap stuff. My favourite is China Yunnan Black Gold, about £16,-- for 100gr. Which has a lovely caramel edge and shrugs off any abuse with too hot water (a common mistake). There is a cheaper variety too which is almost as good.

What wood should I inlay this table with? It's a solid piece of walnut and I'm going with a grill design in the middle, so I'm thinking something red and knotty like burr cherry or yew. Suggestions appreciated. :)

I'd chip in on the Birmingham thing, however I live in geordieland where:

when I returned home from uni for the holidays, the first thing that greeted me was a burned out pram...
some local chavs tried to mug a friend of mine right outside the front doors of the police station...
some different chavs walked into the local college and stole an expensive projector, and that *was* nailed down [well... screwed to the ceiling]

so any moral high ground would be lost...

Cocobolo is a good choice for those sorts of colours although it may be a bit pricey depending on hoe much you need. Well polished ebony would be nice too.

You know, I'm all for HS2, I just think they have the route wrong; it would be much better to connect Brum to somewhere under the atlantic.

But in terms of things not being nailed down, I did hear about a whiskey still being stolen once, just goes to show.

Cheers, I can get some good timber easily enough (the walnut piece has to be one of the best I've had). I've always liked the look of burr ebony because it is nice and knotty, really does have a lot of character when polished.

In other news, I just finished my first computing homework- a 9 page report on data and information. Feels good.

I have been offered a Ps3 with a damaged hdmi port for free. Either fix it myself or pay to get it fixed will need further investigation. Will get it when im off and see what the damage is.

Birmingham is the greenest city in Europe (true). There are three parks within walking distance of where I live. It has more canals than Venice or Amsterdam.

And Selfridges has a Krispy Kreme donuts outlet. They make them on the premises. End of argument. :p
