Indeed I do. Everytime something good happens, about 3 more terrible things happen after with my bad luck. I just don't get my hopes up, i'm never disappointed that way xD

    Oh the British......

How you do make me smile with your own fear of doing well in life.

It's not your fault though *pats shoulder

You can't make national stereotype comments without stating your own nationality, that's just not cricket Sir :)

We have to have the right to generalise back otherwise it's no fun. :)

You may be joking but i'm actually serious. I remember the one and only thing I've actually done well, I complained about.

I took an IQ test in high school, I got 145, or the top 2%. They said "You're smart enough to be a member of MENSA". The first thing I said was "I don't have to attend boring meetings do I?" Fortunately I don't really have to 'do' anything, but I still complained.

I think it's just the way british culture is. We get a positive from a negative; a little moan a day makes us feel better afterwards.

It keeps us grounded. You can achieve more if you're never complacent.

Driving 140 miles tomorrow morning in preparation for my interview.

To say I'm nervous is an understatement, Staying in a Travel lodge the night before so a quiet evening alone with my notes should be enough to calm me I think.

I've got a copy of around 40 common (and deadly) interview questions and the perfect way I should be answering them in relation to the job description and company.

I've got a blank set of questions so on the car ride up I can just answer them into thin air confidently and hopefully everything will flow together nicely covering all I need to cover without scripting.

I'm sure a lot more will come up but its getting into my head the things I should be saying and the things I definitely shouldn't be saying.

On the plus side, If i'm successful I secure myself the start of a really fantastic career.

That's a fair enough statement to make :)

My heritage is.....well....I'm a bit of a mongrel really.

My mother is French and my Father is Portuguese. I was brought up for the first eleven years of my life in South Africa and then moved to Essex (You can imagine the culture change that was).

Moved to London 7 years ago.

My Dad only speaks to me in Afrikaans when he's drunk and my mother only speaks to me in French, when I've done something bad.

I have that Doctor Evil group therapy scene in my head right now..........

Anyhow. I do love the Brits, but your tendancy towards thinking negatively really holds you back.

I get it's a trait left over from the bygone Victorian to the 80's, but it's disheartening when someone gives up or expects failure before they've even started.

I will say for reference. Part of my job is to liase with Three office branches; One in Ireland, one in the States and one in the UK.

When I'm asking for ideas or handing out constructive criticism, the English and the Irish stay silent, on fear of disrupting the status quo. The Americans speak up, actively challenge me or speak whatever ideas are on their mind, regardless of whether it will be rejected or not. I'm not saying everyone is like this, but certain cultures fit more in to negative or positive thinking.

I could go on in far greater detail, but this is a subject for another thread and probably doesn't make anyone's life awesome. ;)

Holy cow mate, there's so many places to start I don't know where to begin ;)

I can't disagree with you in general mate, I guess that's where our humour comes from though.

Mind you when you find over confident Brits then they go to the other extreme and then want to start Empire building, if only we could find a middle ground :D

I wonder what country fits in-between 'America F Yeah!' & 'More tea Vicar?'

Just waiting for a confirmation but should have an interview on Friday for a job I applied to today. As of now, just getting some old projects and assignments together to bring with me (they said there is a lot of modelling and diagrams to be done), so figured it would be an added touch to bring some previous work. I believe its only part-time, but its relevant experience, and its better than nothing. Here's to hoping all goes well!

My missus got a proper job offer again. Not some crap Apprenticeship scheme she won't be eligible for either; a proper full time job that IS assured. I can pack my part time one in because let's face it, childcare is ridiculous. KR5 pay scale too, about £17,000 a year. Most of you lot will scoff at that, but we've been on a low wage or been on JSA, that amount of money will make a massive amount of difference to our lives. It finally feels like we can proud of ourselves as a family, as a life.

Also, we've become good at tightarsing money because we never had much. I've managed to feed a family of 5 for £50 a week before. We have no idea what we're going to do with that amount. the missus has already exclaimed "I'm getting a PS4!" As well as plans for saving a load of it for a deposit on a house in a few years.

......Hopefully a GTX 970 will make its way into my rig.

Congrats! £17k is nothing to scoff at at all, I only earn ~£10k but then, I'm 'unskilled' labour. Learning to economise and stretch whatever budget you do have is an essential skill for us peasants- ~£50 lasts me a month for food/drink, and I ain't exactly skinny either ( that's down to lack of exercise rather than poor diet mainly ). :D

Confirmed my interview for Tomorrow afternoon. Going to bring along my laptop to show off some financial models I made in excel (break even sheets, etc. with all the equations already in place; changing one key number will update the entire sheet) plus some of my modeling diagrams (use cases, activity, sequence, etc.). I'm trying to make a good impression, would love to actually get the position. If I get the job I can start saving some real money and contribute to some bills for my parents. As of now they're looking at a 4th vehicle plus our van is on it's last leg, so if I can take over internet and phone and a few things, I'm sure they'd be very happy.

Cousin is paying me for some photoshop work I did for her a few weeks ago, it isn't much, but it's pocket money!

What we'd all do for a missus whose first thought at an increase in income was to get a games console. Good work DW.

Hah. Well, she wanted a PS3, but it was never major thing and we never had money. I guess it'll be her 'treat' XD
