This. I've run CAT6 before, and it's a total ball-ache - and pretty much every installation of it I've ever seen (apart from the ones I've done, obviously) are out-of-spec when it comes to bend radius anyway. Stick with good ol' CAT5E, that's what I say. STP if you're in a noisy environment, otherwise UTP.

House has been mainly made of dust and displaced furniture for the last two and a half weeks due to decorating, but now finished and we can reclaim the house.

Most of it was re-painting hallways and stairs due to wear and tear, so it's nice to have those parts looking less of a mess, but it's not "new" per se. Really pleased with the areas that have been wallpapered though.

I've finally got a programming "spark" again. I've come up with a really cool idea and I'm actually programming for fun again outside of work which I haven't done much of since joining. I'm making fairly steady progress and I've also been able to solve a few problems we've got here as I'm motivated and doing it for myself.

Until the proper fan i ordered arrives, I've been doing a wee bit of MacGyvering:dremel: with some PC bits as suggested by Snoop Doggy Mod.

First up the fan on the spare PSU i have had a horrendous rattle, which would not do at all while trying to sleep, so that would need swapping out. Only issue is the yate loon was a 2 pin jobbie, so i had to splice it's wires onto the shadow wings i was replacing it with.

Gave it a quick test and it was sooooo quiet :hip:

The only other non-LED fans that I have spare at the minute are some 140's that came with my Arc Midi, so i had tied them onto the 120x240 rad mounts i have using the fan wire i cut off the shadow wings. They were then hooked up to the PSU using 3pin fan to 4pin molex adapters.

With a couple of fan cable extenders i was able to sit one each side of the bed, with the PSU underneath the bed.

They're not immensely powerful, but they're really quite and i'd rather them than the Xigmatek LED fans which would light up the room like a christmas tree.

This is one of the best implementations of this I've ever seen. Not sure how I feel about a PSU under the bed. Next up is controlling them based on temperature :)

I could maybe have stuck it in the bottom drawer, but that would require a lot of fannying around feeding cables through and this way i can just reach down and turn the psu off if required. I've kept it on the rubber mouse mat, whether that makes anything other than my feelings better, i don't know.

Wonder how many you could power from a PSU

based on this PSU providing 456W/38A @12V, and the fans I'm using need 3.6W/0.3A, i could run 126. But i doubt you'd be able to pull that all through the 4-pin molex line without it bursting into flames. You'd probably have to do some clever wiring off all the 12v lines.

Despite having been irritated by a wedding, I managed to service the RS.

New plugs, oil, filter, pollen filter, cleaned the cone filter, lovely.

Did the fuel filter last week. Did not enjoy that as much.

Bonus, all the plugs looked good for 12 months old, the oil didn't have any sparkly bits it shouldn't have, and nothing needed threatening with a breaker bar.

Hopefully soon I can fix the irritating PAS leak and swap all the hoses for some lovely silicone ones, since the factory rubber is all a bit old now.

Will have that bunch of reprobates nigh taking the roof tiles off in the next few weeks...

Context: where i live is under the flight path for most of the the Sunderland Air Show displays [their flightpath for the Great North Run flypast]... and if they flew any lower and they'd be taxing down my street.

Just home from a fairly awesome day out! The very first of a new road race established this year in the (obviously) rural town of Enniskillen, should have been scrutineering with my club but instead spent the day as a privileged spectator. Weather was fantastic, went through a bottle of sunscreen! The best part of the day has to be that it was a complete success and everyone got home safe, only retirements due to mechanical failure and no injury or fatalities.

We were driving home from North Wales this afternoon and managed to see them fly past around Llandudno.

After nearly 2 weeks my bike is back on the road! Had the biggest grin on my face riding home, I've missed it so much.

What I'm not quite so pleased about is the £330 repair bill... That's an expensive lesson in not riding away with your disc lock still attached. £141 for a new caliper bracket, £80 on brake pads, and the rest is labour. I'm glad the disc itself wasn't damaged because that would have been another £170...

Ouch, but that's an incentive not to do that again!

Used the bedside fans for the first time last night, absolutely brilliant. I thought they might not be powerful enough but they're probably just right. Nice little breeze across the back, a subtle hum that's not overwhelming and you might even call soothing. Best nights sleep I've had in ages.
