I retired the last spinning drive in my system, which meant I could also unplug the fan that was cooling said drive, which has made noise levels waaaay more tolerable.

Vertical GPU mount in Corsair 275R...

(using a £35 mount off of Amazon not the "default" position which puts it a few mm from the side panel).

So far temps are basically the same as with the GPU in the normal position and performance is unchanged. Quite happy with the end result as I love the way the FE cooler looks.

    EDIT: Also a custom voltage curve keeps the 2080Ti at ~65-70c with the core @ 1900 & 0.935v :)

The dreaded lurgy is finally abating - I can breathe (more or less) properly again and actually slept through the night.

Just discovered that one of the old graphics cards in my "drawer of random stuff" is a GeForce3 Ti 200 64MB; the other one is a Radeon 9200SE 128mb, which is apparently supported by Soft15khz.

If only this retro system had an AGP slot, dammit!

I might have some guts for you soon. I'm stripping out my old school rig to make a server. XP 2400? IIRC? with RAM and an AGP slot.

Let me know if you do... I've still not shifted on this retro PC and now I'm torn about keeping it!

Anything there apart from the case. Just want shipping. Top board, that. Don't have the box any more or the air cooler though.

Oh the water cooling gear has gone too, apart from the block? IDR. It's been over a year since I looked at it. Its' in the eaves in my flat wrapped in about 4 inches of bubble wrap and fragile tape lol. I'll be home next week, will drag it out then.

Sadly the res leaked. So I took all of it out and was going to put it on air. That's where it ended though sadly, it's now sat doing nothing. However, because I can build a hard drive rack in front of that 140mm fan I can use the case as a server that holds lots of drives (it's nice and tall). So yeah, the guts are yours man. I even got the best IDE drive you can get for it.

    Getting there.

Just the cables to sort out now. Well, tidy and route etc. All of the drives are now in. I've got the 2tb Firecuda with two 120gb SSDs in RAID 0 wedged under it, a 2tb Toshiba, old 600gb Velociraptor and the 400gb U.2 NVME. Which is seriously fast, btw and also gets seriously hot lol. Removed the optical drive in case I want to stick in any more 2.5".

But hey, it's all in and it is working fine as I type this.

Mortgage sorted, the Mrs's ex husband has his money, got a good deal off him, we're all friends and raising a daughter together as an extended family unit.

Makes the bad days all worth it
