Big expensive weddings are too impersonal, you want a small intimate setting so the focus can be just on you and your partner...

Something like that, should leave you with brownie points and enough left for a rig :thumb::lol:

It's not going to be small as both of us have quite large close families, about 70 people/children, but it'll be far from extravagant. People will be well fed and watered and that's about it.

May be worth taking a van over to the continent for a day to load it up.

While you still can that is.

I doubt it would make it any cheaper once we paid corkage. The venue hire was pretty cheap, especially for its size and location, but corkage is not cheap. I'm sure whatever bulk discount we can get with them will work out cheaper and will be a lot less hassle. And I'm all about minimal hassle.

Corkage is such a scam. You can supply your own booze but we'll charge £10 a bottle to open and serve it....

Fair enough, sometimes it's worth paying a bit more to reduce hassle.

But yeah, corkage. Guess they won't let it fly if you say "yeah this is the best man, the bridesmaids and, oh yeah, our personal corker".

Wait a minute... They still charge you to supply your own booze? Weddings are a total scam!

I think it's fair enough if they're not charging for the venue - many places will host on the basis of a minimum number of attendees with a sit-down meal with wine, and the booze is a big part of subsidising that.

If they charge for the venue and want to levy a corkage fee, then it's a bit more skeezy. And a tenner per bottle scaling linearly to dozens of bottles is highway robbery.

But yes. Weddings are a total scam.

Sorry yes, that's what I meant. If they're charging you for the venue in the first place and then add a surcharge for you to bring your own bloody booze, it's a bloody scam!

Well we're doing self catering, so they're not getting any money for the food and the base cost of the room is only £1200, but will likely add a few hundred for room dressings etc. I think if we were using their catering we could probably get away with some free drinks, but they have to make their money somehow.

Use screw cap bottles then argue the case no corks were corked so corkage cannot be charged

    True, it was worth checking.

Not as comforting as several thousand quid though

That's true, although I only did so well because my mental health problems led to me having pretty chaotic finances for a long time, until my wife managed to help me get more organised.

Glad it's coming back to you, wouldn't wish mental health issues on anyone so that PPI is the least you deserve. :thumb:
