The "Asian squat" is a real thing that must be trained from a very young age balance easily and feel natural. You lean your chest on the top of your legs and tuck your ass in. My old man limbs with all the old injuries aren't made for it.

I fixed both my childrens' bikes this weekend.
Reason? Well, both daughter and son had just received brand new shoes. A couple of days later the entire front section of these shoes are worn down - rubber sole included - to the point of almost becoming an open cavity. So naturally I asked them how this was possible. Their explanation? Well, the brakes on their bikes weren't working so they used their feet to slow down. "How long has it been like this?" "A long time." Why hadn't they told me earlier? They forgot apparently.

Anyway, to work. So it turned out their brakes were properly buggered. They had taken some falls (which explains all the scrapes and bruises), and had consistently parked their bikes like kids do: by just throwing them on the ground as they get to where they're going. The result? Both brake levers on my daughters bike were broken - and I mean that literally. The metal fastener thing that secures the brake wire had broken into two parts. So yeah. Replacement handles were purchased and installed. The brake wire retensioned, and the pads tightened. Upon inspection one of her falls (or her parking it) had also buggered the chain to the point where it had almost broken entirely. She explained to me; "Oh yeah, the chain had started popping off, but people have been kind enough to help me put it back on so I didn't mention it." Fair enough. Easily fixed with the careful application of a hammer and a flat rock.

My sons bike was in a slightly better condition. Only one brake handle needed replacing, but I had to replace the wire for the other. His bike got the same treatment, and after doing this I gave them a detailed instructional on how to properly operate and deploy the bike support-parking-thing for when they need to park them. I also made them promise to inform me immediately should their brakes start failing again so that I won't have to buy them new shoes once a week.

Which reminds me; I need to get them new shoes (and make a note of it in the latest purchases thread).

Oh the joys of having children.

    I know!
And how they manage to wear out a set of rainclothes(?) in a couple of weeks is beyond me! Still; they need new ones now - because of all the big holes. Well, I suppose it proves they're healthy, young kids who are not afraid to play, climb or mess about. Still... hmm, I wonder, how much would a kevlar suit for a 7-year old cost? Nah, they'd probably manage to tear holes in that one as well. I once watched my son take one of those asthma inhalers apart simply by the careful application of attrition.

Yeah they defiantly seem to be able to destroy many things that are "suppose" to be indestructable!!! Got to love them!

Considering how long the rubber on most brake pads last, don't ask her how fast she was going to wear down those soles so much..

Last repair I did, put a new socket on the end of a laptop charger so I could fix up an old laptop with an SSD and give it to a mate.. it now has a custom charger and ssd complete with windows 10! Soldering is always fun!

Yeah, I think some things I'm better off not knowing. Ignorance is bliss and all that...
