Got: Olympus C770UZ, 4MP & 10x Optical Zoom Sony HC42 Digital Camcorder Would dearly like to have but can't justify it: A decent dSLR and a selection of lenses.
Fujifilm A345, 4.1MP not sure if it is a model found outside of Japan. I really haven't checked. Spent somewhere around $200 (in yen) for the camera and a 256MB memory card last November. only reason I "upgraded" was because I had broken the LCD on my old Fujifilm camera. I needed a fully working camera, but I really don't take that many pictures. It's a great little camera though. Not as small as those Sony ones, but also not $400.
I own a Fuji s5500, (prosumer cam.) 4MP, 10x optical zoom. Accesoires: Polarizer 512MB + 128MB xD card bag stand 2 sets of batteries+ charger I've bought it 1 year ago, and made 7250 pictures by now. I'm looking for a better model (dSLR), but i think that's something for +/- half a year. For now i'm using it for partypictures, family pics and casemod pictures.
Canon Powershot A75 (compact 3.2MP) Not too much on accessories. A 1GB CF card was a one-off, about $80 at the time I think, and I've bought a few cheap filters and lenses off eBay, maybe $60 total. I'd like to move to dSLR at some point, but really don't have the money yet, and in reality I probably wouldn't get a huge amount more use from it. The majority of my photos of are computer stuff and the majority of those only need to be web-quality, and since I've got some magnification lenses, my need to crop rather than just resize is pretty much nil. Having said that, I vastly prefer the feel and control that SLRs have, which I'd assume would be replicated by a dSLR.
Nikon D50 (dSLR), was £460 when I bought it at Christmas with a Sigma 18-50mm f3.5-5.6. Bought a 1GB 133x SD card with the camera for £45, since then bought 5 512MB 60x SD cards for a total of about £35. Tripod, Hama Star 62, which was about £30 a few months ago but hasn't been used much. Sony DSC-P10 5MP compact, bought years ago for £300, 128MB Memory stick which came with the camera.
Minolta Diamage F300, 5 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, which cost somewhere between £200 and £250 mark, in May of 2004. It's a compact model, but I've been able to get some nice photos out of it on occasions (Bumble Bee 1). I've spent about £50 on a 1Gb SD card for it, and more recently about £40 on a pair of Li-ION CRV3 type batteries, which are a huge improvement on the old AA NiMh rechargables. To the extent that where I'd previously be carrying eight pairs of NiMh AAs I now only need to carry the two Li-ION CRV3s. (they're from Jessops if anyone is interested, charger and batteries) This is only my second digital camera, the previous one being a Olympus Campidia c-720uz, bought in 2000 and which is amazingly still working, though the card reader in it is on it's last legs. So lets say I upgrade once every four or five years. And just to pimp the old tech, I also have a Praktica MTL5 SLR which is about as far from digital as you can get without special effort (even the light meter is partially mechanical), which cost me £25. For which I have a selection of lenses and filters that I found in the loft.
Canon Powershot A40 2MP Compact (ish) Cost around £200 over 3 years ago. Bought a 64mb CF card originally and then a 128mb. Thinking of getting a Casio EX-Z750 or Sony W50 what with their extra long battery lives. Why do you ask?
A friend of mine just bought me an Olympus Stylus 720 SW. It rawks! We're also looking into purchasing a camcorder. Any suggestions?
* Currently using a Nikon d70 w/ kit 18-70 & sigma 50mm macro * Last year was an expensive one (buying the d70 & 50mm ~£1000), this year ive spent next to nothing (hoya r72 ~£40), although im about to buy the sigma 10-20 which is a quick £300 * No intention of changing bodies any time soon but lenses, tripods & filters are somewhat of a bottomless pit
Me too. I've bought a mini-tripod for desk-top shots, already had a normal one. Can't see me upgrading for a few years, I don't need more pixels but a lot more zoom would be nice.
canon powershot s50 5Mpixels, makes great pics thats the one for the whole family. my own cam is my phone (sony ericson k750i with 2Mpixel)
Konica Minolta 5D, 6.1 MP coupled to a Tamron 28-300 f6.3 lens. I bought it because I could keep using my existing lens, it takes wonderful pictures, but it doesn't handle long exposures as well as I would like. At the same time I got a 2 GB and a 512 MB CF cards, card reader, extra battery, and a few other things. A few days later I ordered a Tamrac Velocity 7 bag for it, which is by far the best bag I've ever used. It slings over one shoulder and rides comfortably on my back, even when i'm climbing, and I can swing it arond to my chest to get at the camera without taking it off. I just wish I'd gotten the somewhat larger Velocity 9. I've got a Wal-Mart $30 tripod with quick release shoes for the cameras and it works fine.
Compact; Olympus mju-mini 4mp with 512mb xD card SLR; Canon 10D with a couple of lenses, CF cards, batteries, bag. Spent: too much
Nope, it was second hand. I originally payed £250 but when I got the camera, the mode select dial wasn't working, and it was stuck in Manual mode. With this in mind we settled at the buyer giving me £50 back. I never quite got around to getting the dial fixed (lack of funds - I was quoted £160 ) and all of a sudden about a month ago it fixed itself. Very odd, but I'm very pleased with it
For stills, I've got a Kodak DC280 and an Olympus D-560. The Kodak at the time (1999-2000) was nearer the top of the line, retailing for close to $800 , it takes alright pictures (though they seem to have more perspective distortion than others) but it's USB 1 IIRC and it's bulky. Not much control at all. Almost never used these days. The Olympus is 3.2 Megapixels, small, but not too small. Fits in my pocket. Takes good pics, a decent amount of control over the picture. Fits in a cell-phone type pocket nicely. I use it all the time. Not possible to add a lens. I might get a better one at some point so I can take it up a level, but for 95% of my needs, it's perfect.
