Hi guys, i'm building a pc out of old kit, something along these lines:
    P3 800mhz
    128mb
    10gig Hdd
    Voodoo3 16mb w/ tv out

I would like to use linux on this PC to play MP3s either from a network shared folder or from the local hard drive.
Here are the things I need:
*To run LIRC for remote control (already have serial IR reciever that is compatible)
*Have a nice, big lettered interface for operating from a distance
*Output to TV via the Voodoo3 (is there drivers for linux?)
*QUICK booting - don't wanna wait 5mins for it to load up. I would like it to load straight into the MP3 interface, is this possible?

Firstly, what do you think would be the best distro to use and what programs could I use for the interface and playback?

    Thanks guys.

Geexbox could work for you, covers all your points but is geared toward video playback so may not be quite to your liking. Only a small download anyway :) and can run from the CD for you to try it out.
