I don't like kodak or fuji or casio etc cameras...when was the last time you saw a kodak SLR? No such thing (except for some digital oddities based on Canon or Nikon bodies). Thus they have no idea how to build a lens of good quality, or a good metering or flash system.

Canon and Nikon make many of the best lenses in the world, and the best SLR bodies. This rubs off on their lower models as well. At the bottom end, I'd look at models like the Canon A30, A40, Nikon Coolpix 2000, Coolpix 775, etc.

Can I hijack this thread Herbs? Eh? Yes? Oh Good....

I'm thinking of upgrading my digital camera - I have currently a Sony DSC-50. Takes perfectly good pics, and has seen lots of use over the 18 months I've had it.

The problem is, I have just got into diving, having passed my PADI open water course when I was on holiday earlier in the year. What I'd like is a camera that I can get a waterproof housing for, as the DSC-50 doesn't have one.

I have been looking at a sony DSC-P9. This has got a marine housing available, and would mean that I can still use the memory sticks I've got.

Has any of you got any suggestions to other cameras I should be looking at. Remember, housing availability is a big issue here.

    Ta,

A friend of mine has just bought a marine casing for his IXUS 300. I havent seen it in the flesh yet, but from the pics it looks pretty cool and is water resistant down to 40m. I'll have a proper look on sat and grab a few pics ;)

Also, have you considered the Sony DSC-P71? You can pick those up for around £300 and its still a 3 megapixel camera. DPreview seemed to like it, and I have one myself ;) Have a look at their review here:
For the cost of the DSC-P9, you could buy the DSC-P71 and the marine housing :dude:

Oh and I got mine from Amazon.co.uk who were the cheapest at the time :D
